The IIHF Asia and Oceania Championship (formerly the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia) are a series of international ice hockey tournaments in the continent of Asia. The purpose of the tournament is to provide competitive opportunities for Asian and Oceania teams that are either in the lower divisions of the IIHF World Championships or did not compete in any IIHF World Championships. The first edition was held in Hong Kong from 24 to 26 April 2008, with the second edition held a year later in the United Arab Emirates. The third edition took place from 29 March to 4 April 2010 in the Republic of China. [1]

Contents

The first women's tournament took place in Shanghai, China from 10 to 14 April 2010, and the first University Challenge Cup of Asia took place in Goyang-Si, Seoul, South Korea from 12 to 14 May 2010. [2] Junior (under-20) and under-18 editions were introduced in 2012. On 31 January 2020, the women's and men's under-20 tournaments were cancelled, except the men's tournament, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3] The competition was renamed to the IIHF Asia and Oceania Championship starting with the 2022 season. [4]

The IIHF Asian Oceanic U18 Championship was an annual event held by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) each at the start of every year for national under-18 ice hockey teams from Asia and Oceania. The Championships first held in 1984 and was played every year until 2002 where the competition ceased as teams were integrated into the World U18 Championships.

The 2011 IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia was the 2nd Women's IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia, an annual international ice hockey tournament. It took place between 11 November, 14 November 2010 in Japan. The games were played in the Kirifuri Arena, Nikko. The Chinese team was the defending champion, having won the 2010 championship.

Chinese Taipei won the tournament after winning all four of their games and finishing first in the standings. Thailand finished in second place and Hong Kong finished third.

The 2014 IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia was an international women's ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The tournament took place between 9 March and 13 March 2014 in Harbin, China and was the fourth edition held since its formation in 2010 under the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia series of tournaments. China won the tournament, their first title since 2010, after defeating North Korea in the gold medal game. South Korea beat in the bronze medal game Australia to claim third place.

To be eligible as a "junior", a player cannot be born earlier than 1998. Malaysia won the tournament after winning all five of their round-robin games and finishing first in the standings. Kyrgyzstan finished in second place and the United Arab Emirates finished third.

The tournament made up the second level of competition sitting below the 2019 IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia. The Philippines won the tournament after finishing first in the standings. The United Arab Emirates finished in second place and India finished third.

The team made its international debut in December 2018 at the 2019 IIHF U20 Challenge Cup of Asia Division I tournament which it went on to win.
