Kerang railway station is located on the Piangil line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the town of Kerang, and it opened on 25 October 1884. [1]
Kerang opened on 25 October 1884. On 30 May 1890, the line was extended to Swan Hill. [1] The station, like the township itself, was named after an Aboriginal word meaning moon or an edible root vegetable. [2]
Kerang was once the junction station of the former railway lines to Stony Crossing and Koondrook, both closing in 1961 and 1976 respectively.
A number of sidings opposite the station were removed in 1991. [3]
In late 1993 and 1994, the station was operated by the former Borough of Kerang through a lease agreement with the Public Transport Corporation, after the station was de-staffed in August 1993. [4] The borough assumed control of the station on 13 December 1993, however withdrew from the agreement on 30 June 1994, due to low ticket sales and operation costs. [4]
The station platform was reconstructed and resurfaced in January 2019. [5]
Disused station Macorna is located between Kerang and Pyramid, while demolished station Lake Boga was located between Kerang and Swan Hill.
On 5 June 2007, a fatal crash occurred between a train and a semi-trailer at the Murray Valley Highway level crossing, north of Kerang. Eleven people died, all of whom were passengers.
Kerang has one platform. It is serviced by twice daily V/Line Swan Hill line services to Southern Cross and Swan Hill. [6]

Kerang is a town on the Loddon River in northern Victoria in Australia. It is the commercial centre to an irrigation district based on livestock, horticulture, lucerne and grain. It is located 279 kilometres (173 mi) north-west of Melbourne on the Murray Valley Highway a few kilometres north of its intersection with the Loddon Valley Highway, elevation 78 metres (256 ft). At the 2016 census, Kerang had a population of 3,893. Kerang is believed to be an Aboriginal word for Cockatoo. It is home to the largest solar and battery farm in the country which was opened in June 2019. The 50-megawatt battery system is located outside of Kerang and stores 100 per cent renewable energy. The 2,000 solar panels have become a tourist attraction and are drawing many businesses to the town.

The Piangil railway line is a 5 ft 3 in gauge (1600 mm) railway line in north-western Victoria, Australia. It branches off the Deniliquin line just north of Bendigo, and runs in a north-westerly direction through Pyramid Hill and Kerang to the border town of Swan Hill, then roughly parallels the New South Wales border to Piangil and Yungera. The line is now open only as far as Piangil, and passenger services only operate to Swan Hill.

The Vinelander was an Australian passenger train operated by the Victorian Railways and, later, V/Line between Melbourne and Mildura from August 1972 until September 1993. Operating overnight along the Mildura line, it included motorail and sleeping car facilities.
