Klank, also stylized as kLaNk or KLANK, is an American industrial metal band that originated out of Long Island, New York in December 1993. [1] The project began after Daren Diolosa, the brainchild of Klank, departed from the fellow industrial band Circle of Dust. [3] [4] Diolosa carried the project as a solo project until around 1997, when he began performing live. Following the live performances, Pat Servedio joined as a full-time member, with Diolosa and Servedio joining as a team. The band would go through many members, eventually settling on the lineup of Diolosa, Servedio, and former Every Day Life drummer Eric Wilkins. [5]

History

Klank began in December 1993, following Circle of Dust's Klayton disbanding the live lineup of the band, which included Daren Diolosa, nicknamed Klank. [1] [3] Klank began writing his own solo material from there, eventually debuting with "Animosity". [3] The song would be released via R.E.X. Records on two compilations. In 1995, Klank signed with Tooth & Nail Records and began to work on the project's debut album, Still Suffering. To prove his dedication to working hard, Diolosa signed his contract in his own blood. [3] With the production of the album, Diolosa reunited with his former Circle of Dust bandmate Klayton, as well as Buka of Argyle Park. Diolosa had been featured on Argyle Park's debut album, Misguided , which also featured Mark Salomon (ex-The Crucified, Stavesacre), Jeff Bellew (ex-The Crucified, Stavesacre, Chatterbox), Tommy Victor (Prong), Jyro Xhan (Mortal), Dirk Lemmenes (ex-Focused, Stavesacre), and several others. [6] The album came out through the label and by 1997, the project began to tour with a lineup of Diolosa on vocals, guitars, and keyboards, with Every Day Life members Mike Niosea on guitars, Carl Weaver on guitars, and Eric Wilkins on drums. [7]

In 1999, the band recorded their sophomore album, Numb, which featured an entirely new lineup, including Danny "Ducci" Owsley on guitars, John Zaletel on drums, and Pat Servedio on guitars, bass, and programming. [8] The album was the first release under Klank's new label, SmokeDogg Productions, and was also released on Progressive Arts Music. [2] [9] The album would later be re-released under the title of NUMB...Reborn. [10] According to Klank, "Ducci" joined the band by recommendation of Bryan Gray, who had filled in with the band who Diolosa had worked with in The Blamed and Six Feet Deep. [11] Diolosa met Ducci by Gray and would ask him to join. Ducci would just graduate from school before going on tour the next day. [11] By the end of 2001, the band would embark on hiatus. Diolosa would go to work for Ringling Brothers Circus as a transportation manager. [3]

In 2007, In Memory Of..., was released via SmokeDogg Productions, once more. The EP featured six new songs and several older songs. With the release of the EP, the band was revitalized, consisting of Diolosa, Servedio, Owsley, Zaletel, and new bassist Charlie Parker. [12] However, by 2010, the band consisted of Diolosa, Servedio, and a returning Eric Wilkins. [5] The same year, Numb was re-released as Numb...Reborn, which featured several new songs, featuring Mike Phillips (ex-Deliverance, ex-The Sacrificed) Larry Farkas (Vengeance Rising, Die Happy, Once Dead) and Jim Chaffin (ex-The Crucified, Deliverance, the Blamed). [13] [14] [15] In 2012, the band released Urban Warfare. The album featured a guest spot for Doug Pinnick of King's X, who Diolosa had been friends with for many years. [3] [16] V13.net gave the album a review, stating that "At the end of the day I feel Urban Warfare is the best Klank effort to date; they have virtually perfected their brand of infectiously-catchy, insanely groovy metal." [16]

In 2017, Klank released their fifth studio album, Rise. The album was very well received, with Ilker Yücel of Regen Magazine writing "For this, RISE may be KLANK's most arresting album to date, and one that this writer imagines will be very difficult for the band to top in the future." and Bruce Moore of V13.net writing "All things considered, I think this is my favorite Klank release since their debut, Still Suffering. All nine tracks flow well and I really enjoyed listening to the entire package. No fillers to be found here, just good, honest, groove-infused industrial metal." [17] [18] During that same year, Klank would also record the score for a documentary created by Bruce Moore, who apparently was a longtime friend of his, titled Metal Missionaries, which would feature bands in the Christian metal genre, including Vials of Wrath, A Hill to Die Upon, Frost Like Ashes, BoughtXBlood, and Antidemon. Living Sacrifice is an American Christian metal band formed in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1989. The band has released eight studio albums, out of which the first three were recorded under R.E.X. Records with their original vocalist Darren Johnson as a more thrash metal and death metal oriented band. The band evolved into a groove metal and metalcore style beginning with Reborn (1997) under Solid State Records with the original guitarist Bruce Fitzhugh on vocals. In 2003, the group disbanded due to other projects and later their label, Solid State, released their best-of album, In Memoriam (2005). In 2008, Living Sacrifice reformed and released a two-song digital only single called Death Machine. They then began working on The Infinite Order which was released on January 26, 2010. Lance Garvin and Bruce Fitzhugh are the two remaining original members.

The Orange County Supertones were a Christian ska band from Orange County, California. The band was signed to Tooth & Nail Records and its imprint, BEC Recordings, before becoming an independent band. The band temporarily disbanded in 2005, reunited in 2010 to resume touring and recording, and permanently disbanding in 2017. The OC Supertones were one of the first widely successful Christian ska bands.

The project has released five studio albums: Circle of Dust (1992), Brainchild (1994), a re-recording of Circle of Dust (1995), Disengage (1998), and Machines of Our Disgrace (2016).

Stavesacre are an American rock band from Huntington Beach, California formed in 1995. The band is composed of vocalist Mark Salomon, guitarists Jeff Bellew and Ryan Dennee, bassist Dirk Lemmenes and drummer Sam West.

The Crucified is an American Christian hardcore and crossover thrash band from Fresno, California that formed in 1984. Its lineup is vocalist Mark Salomon, guitarist Greg Minier, bassist Jeff Bellew, and drummer Jim Chaffin. The band are considered "pioneers of Christian hardcore." During their initial 1984–1993 tenure, the band played at the Cornerstone Festival several times, and also opened for non-religious punk and metal bands like D.R.I. and Pantera. The band broke up in 1993 due to personal differences, but reunited in 2009.

<i>Misguided</i> 1994 studio album by Argyle Park

Misguided is Argyle Park's only album under that name. The album was released in 1994 by R.E.X. Records into the Christian rock market, and sits alongside other early 90s work by Circle of Dust and Mortal as being instrumental in introducing industrial music to the Christian music scene. The album was nominated for Best Metal/Hard Rock Album at the 27th Annual GMA Dove Awards in 1996.

<i>Suspension of Disbelief</i> (album) 2000 studio album by AP2

Suspension of Disbelief is the lone release by American supergroup AP2, put out by Tooth & Nail Records in 2000. AP2 was a "sequel" to the band Argyle Park, who released their only album Misguided in 1994. Argyle Park consisted of Buka and Klayton, while AP2 featured primary players Buka and Level, with Klayton producing the record. In the winter of 2000, Tooth & Nail cut AP2 due to the low sales of this album. Since Buka had only wanted AP2 to release albums for Tooth & Nail, AP2 ended as a band after Tooth & Nail dropped them.

<i>Speakeasy</i> (Stavesacre album) 1999 studio album by Stavesacre

Speakeasy is the third full-length album by Christian rock band Stavesacre. It was the band's final studio album to be released on Tooth & Nail Records. The band would later re-record "Keep Waiting", "Gold and Silver" and "Rivers Underneath" for the Collective compilation album, also released through Tooth & Nail.

Neon Horse was an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed by Mark Salomon, Jason Martin and Steven Dail. They were previously signed to Tooth & Nail Records with whom they have released two studio albums. Neon Horse's sound has been described as a being influenced by the music of the 1980s.

Mark Salomon is an American singer best known as the lead singer of the hard rock bands Stavesacre and the Crucified. Other bands in which he has been a key member include the punk rock Outer Circle and rap-oriented Native Son and Neon Horse. In both Stavesacre and the Crucified, he served as primary lyricist as well.

Mortal was a Christian industrial/dance band fronted by Jerome Fontamillas and Jyro Xhan. Both members went on to found the alternative rock group Fold Zandura, and for a time were members of both bands simultaneously. The band is known for its lyrical intelligence, incorporating advanced theology with what has been billed as "Industrial Praise and Worship." According to CCM Magazine "Mortal has had a much greater influence... on industrial music than its modest output would suggest."

Overcome are an American Christian metalcore band. They come from Phoenix, Arizona. The band started making music in 1993 until their decade-long hiatus from 2000 to 2010, when they commenced making music again. Tooth & Nail Records released the band's first two albums, Blessed Are the Persecuted in 1996 and When Beauty Dies in 1997. Facedown Records has released the other albums from the band signed the band. They released Immortal Until Their Work Is Done in 1999, More Than Death in 2001, The Great Campaign of Sabotage in 2011, and No Reserves. No Retreats. No Regrets. in 2013. They were one of the first "Spirit-Filled Hardcore" bands, along with Unashamed, Focused, Strongarm, and Zao. They were the first band signed to Facedown Records. The band is playing at Facedown Fest 2017.

The Blamed is an American Christian hardcore punk band currently based out of Chicago. During their tenure they have played primarily hardcore punk, pop punk, punk rock, and emo music with some influences from metal as well. They originally are from California having relocated to Illinois after guitarist Bryan Gray moved to Chicago. The band originally formed in 1994 and disbanded in 2003. Members during this era of the band included Bryan Gray, Christopher Wiitala, Trevor Wiitala, Jeff Locke, Jim Chaffin, John Hansen, and Matt Switaj. They have released three albums, with Tooth & Nail Records, 21 in 1994, Frail in 1996, and Give Us Barabbas in 2002. The band released four albums, with Grrr Records, ...Again in 1998, Forever in 1999, Germany in 2000, and Isolated Incident in 2001. The band reformed in the summer of 2016 to play a one-off set at Audio Feed music festival. This has since lead to the band reforming and recording a split EP with the Chicago hardcore band The Satire, a band sharing multiple members with the Blamed. The split EP was released in November 2018 through Indivision Music.

Few Left Standing is a Christian metal band that primarily played Christian hardcore and was signed to Takehold Records. The band's debut album was produced by Living Sacrifice frontman, Bruce Fitzhugh. The band has toured with Underoath, Narcissus, and Tantrum of the Muse. On December 3, 2019, it was announced that the band would be returning to perform at Furnace Fest 2020, alongside a recently reunited Beloved.

Chatterbox also styled as CHATTERbOX was a project of the Crucified's Jeff Bellew. The project hosted many session musicians, including Stavesacre and the Crucified's Mark Salomon, and Argyle Park and Circle of Dust's Scott Albert. Bellew has also played on Argyle Park's album Misguided, along with Salomon, Dirk Lemmenes, and multiple other musicians.

Larry Farkas is an American guitarist who primarily performs thrash metal. He was a member of Christian bands Vengeance Rising, Deliverance, Holy Soldier, and Once Dead, many of which he started.

Bryan Gray is an American musician that has predominately performed with bands in the punk rock and hardcore punk genre, including and most notably, the Blamed, Blenderhead, Left Out, The Satire, and Rocks in Pink Cement. He also has performed in the hardcore band Six Feet Deep. Gray was best known for being the brainchild of The Blamed, which is known for their tenure on Tooth & Nail Records. He also has performed with industrial metal bands such as Mortal and Klank.
