Legislature |
Local elections will be held in Kosovo on 22 October 2017. [1] However, only 19 municipalities elected a mayor in the first round, and 19 will have to vote again on 19 November.
The Mayor and the members of the Assembly will be elected by open list proportional representation, with seats reserved for national minorities, in each Kosovo municipalities
The Central Election Commission has certified for municipal elections on October 22, 91 political subjects, of which 35 political parties, one coalition, 30 civic initiatives and 25 independent candidates. [2]

The Democratic Party of Kosovo is the largest political party in Kosovo. It was originally a social-democratic party coming out of demilitarized KLA after the war, with most of the leadership coming from Albanian nationalists and former members of PMK. However, during its congress in January 2013, it positioned itself as a center-right party. It is the main center-right party in Kosovo. The party shows strong national conservative, socially liberal and economically liberal tendencies.
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo is a political party in Kosovo. It was formed on 29 April 2001.
The administrative divisions of Serbia are regulated by the Government of Serbia Enactment of 29 January 1992, and by the Law on Territorial Organization adopted by the National Assembly of Serbia on 29 December 2007.
Lutfi Haziri is the mayor of the Gjilan and former deputy prime minister and minister of Kosovo for Culture, Youth, Sports and Non-residential Affairs. He headed the delegation of Kosovo in the talks on the political status of Kosovo with Serbia in Vienna in February 2006. Haziri is a central figure in Kosovo politics and was a candidate for the successor of the late Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova for the chairmanship of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).
The municipalities and cities are the second level administrative subdivisions of Serbia. The country is divided into 145 municipalities and 29 cities, forming the basic level of local government.
Municipal elections were held in Kosovo on November 17, 2007, at the same time as elections to the Assembly of Kosovo, with a second round for the mayoral elections held on 2007-12-08. The date was originally set for September 1, 2007 by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Joachim Rücker.
The 2008 Serbian local elections in Kosovo were held on 11 May 2008, together with Serbia's parliamentary elections and elections in Vojvodina. UNMIK authorities have criticized Serbia organizing elections saying only the UN can organize elections in Kosovo. Kosovo's President Fatmir Sejdiu accused Serbia of trying to challenge Kosovo's statehood.
Klokot or Kllokot, is a town and municipality in the District of Gjilan in southeastern Kosovo. The municipality was established on 8 January 2010, the settlements having been part of the municipality of Vitina. The seat of the municipality is in the town of Klokot. It is a Serbian enclave, and planned member of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
Isa Mustafa is a Kosovar politician who is the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Mustafa was Mayor of Pristina from December 2007 to December 2013 and served as Prime Minister of Kosovo between December 2014 and September 2017.
The Albanian local elections of 2011 took place on 8 May 2011 in Albania. Electors were asked to elect their municipality's mayor, municipal council members, municipal unit mayor, and municipal unit members. The elections were administrated by the Central Election Commission of Albania. Only 9 of the 384 winning candidates were women.
The Danish local elections of 2013 were held on 19 November 2013 in Denmark's 98 municipal councils, contesting 2,444 seats for the 2014-17 term of office, and in five regional councils, contesting 205 seats for the 2014-17 term. Advance voting began on 20 August 2013 in national registration offices in Denmark, hospitals, prisons etc. Twelve (12) women hold the highest political office of mayor in the municipalities in the 2014-17 term of office.
Fadil Ferati was a Kosovar political leader, he was the Mayor of Istog and vice-president of Democratic League of Kosovo and he was widely known as a politician who never lost any election.
The Brussels Agreement was made between the governments of Serbia and Kosovo on the normalization of their relations. It was negotiated and concluded, although not signed by either party, in Brussels under the auspices of the European Union. The negotiations were led by Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dačić and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, and mediated by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton. The agreement was concluded on 19 April 2013.
Albanian partial local elections of 2013 were held on September 1, 2013, and November 3, 2013. Following the Parliamentary Elections in June, and the new Albanian Government composition announced on July 31, 2013, there were reelections in four municipalities, three of them rural.
The elections were administrated by the Central Election Commission of Albania.
Local elections were held in Kosovo on 3 November 2013. These were the first elections which the Serbs of Northern Kosovo participated in since the Republic of Kosovo declared independence in 2008; polls were monitored by the OSCE. There were violent reactions in Serb-majority areas of northern Kosovo.
Pristina is the capital city of Kosovo. In the preliminary results of the 2011 census the population of Pristina was around 198,000. The majority of the population is Albanian, but there are also smaller communities including Bosniaks, Serbs, Romani and others. The surface of Pristina is 854 km². Pristina is known as the center of cultural, economical and political developments. Since 2014 the current mayor is Shpend Ahmeti. The city is home of the University of Pristina, Pristina International Airport, the Government Building and the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo.
Local elections in Siquijor held on May 9, 2016 as part of the 2016 Philippine general election. Voters elected all local posts in the province: a town mayor, vice mayor, town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan - three in each of the province's two administrative districts, the governor, vice governor, and one representative for lone district of Siquijor.
Dalibor Jevtić is a Serbian politician, former deputy mayor of Štrpce, as well as former and current Minister for Communities and Return and Deputy Prime Minister in the Kosovo Government.
Local elections will be held in North Kosovo, on 19 May 2019 and this came as a cause of resignation of the mayors of the four municipalities of North Kosovo following the imposition of 100% tax against Serbia.
