Kuneru is a village in Vizianagaram district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. [1] Nagavali River and one of its tributaries converge at the village. The village is peaceful with much greenery, as well as being eco-friendly. It has little development.

Kuneru railway station is located on VizianagaramRaipur mainline in East Coast Railway zone of Indian Railways.

On 21 January 2017, the Hirakhand Express 18448 derailed near Kuneru resulting in at least 39 deaths and more than 200 injuries. [2] [3]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hirakhand Express</span> Train in India

Hirakhand Express is a daily express train which runs between Jagdalpur and Bhubaneswar. It was initially introduced between Sambalpur and Balangir. This train has seen several extension on both the ends and now running in a completely different route than its initial station of origin. First it was extended to run between Rourkela and Titlagarh, then between Rourkela and Rayagada, then between Rourkela and Bhubaneswar via Vijayanagaram but after completion of the Koraput-Rayagada link line connecting Jharsuguda-Vizianagaram line with Kothavalasa-Kirandul line, it was diverted to run between Koraput to Bhubaneswar. In 2010, it was further extended until Jagdalpur. It is operated by the East Coast Railway Zone of Indian Railways.

Mentada mandal is one of the 34 mandals in Vizianagaram district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is administration under Parvathipuram revenue division and headquartered at Mentada. The mandal is bounded by Pachipenta, Ramabhadrapuram, Dattirajeru and Gajapathinagaram mandals. A portion of it also borders the state of Odisha.

On January 21, 2017, the Hirakhand Express 18448, a scheduled passenger train from Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar, derailed near the village of Kuneru in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, killing 41 people and injuring 68 others. The train was carrying 600 passengers.

The 12375/12376 Tambaram–Jasidih Junction Ratna Weekly Superfast Express is a Express train of the Indian Railways connecting Chennai Tambaram in Tamil Nadu and Jasidih Junction in Jharkhand. It is currently being operated with 12375/12376 train numbers on a weekly basis.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2017 Khatauli train derailment</span>

On 19 August 2017, the Kalinga Utkal Express train derailed near Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, India causing fatalities: 23 people were killed and 156 others were injured. This was the fourth major passenger train derailment in 2017 and the third in Uttar Pradesh.

On 23 August 2017, the Kaifiyat Express train derailed between the Pata and Achalda railway stations in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh, India, injuring at least 80 people. This was the second train derailment within a week after the Kalinga Utkal Express derailed near Khatauli on 19 August 2017 in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) has been announced as the newest railway zone of the Indian Railways and is headquartered at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The formal notification for operationalization of this Zone is yet to be issued.
