This article is about the list of most populated cities in Andhra Pradesh state of India as per the 2011 Census of India, conducted by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, under Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Cities Statistics

As per the 2011 Census of India, towns with population of 100,000 and above are called "cities". [1]

Visakhapatnam is the most populated city, with a population of 2,278,000 after the merger of surrounding towns into Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (VMC) and it being upgraded to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). There have been proposals to merge some nearby villages to Vijayawada, Kakinada, and Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporations. [2] [3] [4]

Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Tirupati are being developed as smart cities by Government of India under Smart Cities Mission. [5] [6]

In 2021 Mangalagiri and Tadepalli Municipalities and villages in mandals were merged to form Mangalagiri-Tadepalli. [7]

    Mangalagiri Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC) is the civic body that governs Mangalagiri and Tadepalle city's and villages in the corresponding mandals of the Mangalagiri Assembly constituency in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. It is the second largest municipal corporation next in line to GVMC in terms of area with 194.41 km2 (75.06 sq mi) and 2,53,875 of voters in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is classified as important Municipal Corporation in the Capital of Andhra Pradesh. Municipal Corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with formation of municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. Mangalagiri Tadepalli Municipal Corporation Municipal Corporation is headed by Mayor of city and governed by Commissioner.

    The Andhra Pradesh State Department of Archaeology and Museums is a department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh which oversees archaeological exploration and maintenance of heritage sites and museums in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It was established in the year 1914 under the stewardship of Dr. Ghulam Yazdani. As a result of formation of A. P. State in 1956, the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Hyderabad was expanded and it became known as Andhra Pradesh Department of Archaeology and Museums in the year 1960. When the state of Telangana was formed in 2014, the department was separated into two; leading to disputes between the two newly formed departments over historical artifacts.

    South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) has been announced as the newest railway zone of the Indian Railways and is headquartered at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The formal notification for operationalization of this Zone is yet to be issued.
