La Tierra del Fuego is the second album by American jazz trumpeter Roy Campbell, recorded in 1993 and released on the Delmark label.
The album reflects Roy's interest in World music. "I wanted more of a Latin and Third World sound than I had on New Kingdom " says Campbell. [1] The title cut is a suite in three sections dedicate to the innovative musicians of the '60s, John Coltrane, Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, Eric Dolphy, among others. On the tune "Booker's Lament" Roy pays homage to trumpeter Booker Little. Campbell had been playing trumpet by six years before he first heard Little perform on Max Roach's Deeds, Not Words . "He had textures, colors and voicings that were revolutionary for the '60s" says Campbell, citing Little's Out Front as a seminal trumpet recording. [1]

Alex Henderson, in his review for AllMusic claims "In Spanish, La Tierra del Fuego means The Land of Fire, and Campbell brings plenty of fire and passion to this consistently inspired CD." [2] The Penguin Guide to Jazz states that "is an intermittenly exciting stew of traditions and new ideas, with nods to Booker Little and various threads of Afro-Cuban jazz and the hottest modal bands of the 1960s." Live-Evil is an album of both live and studio recordings by American jazz musician Miles Davis. Parts of the album featured music from Davis' concert at the Cellar Door in 1970, which producer Teo Macero subsequently edited and pieced together in the studio. Far Cry is a jazz album by musician Eric Dolphy with trumpeter Booker Little, originally released in 1962 on New Jazz, a subsidiary of the Prestige label. Featuring their co-led quintet, it is one of the few studio recordings of their partnership. It is also one of the earliest appearances of bassist Ron Carter on record. Dolphy took part in Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz session before recording this album on the same day. He had participated in the recording of Jazz Abstractions the previous day.

According to Roy, the title refers to "a whole generation of musicians who've been overlooked, musicians who use avant-garde techniques to develop stuff that refers to the tradition". In the liner notes of the album, Campbell claims "We represent the sum total of the musical masters who played before us and presently". Meanwhile, Parker says that "the music on this album is defined by the strictest rules of beauty, each sound is ordered and cured with the energy of ancient spirits. The same spirits that guided John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong and Bud Powell." The CD edition adds two bonus tracks.
