Lalon is a Bangladeshi folk, rock, fusion music band formed in Khulna, Bangladesh in 2001 by Nigar Sultana Sumi mostly influenced by Fakir Lalon Shah. [2] [3]

Nigar Sultana Sumi established the band on 2001 in greater Khulna. [4] [5] [6] She is the founder and main vocalist of the band. The band first Album Biprotip was released in 2007. After two years later their second album Khepa was released.

The Baul are a group of mystic minstrels of mixed elements of Sufism and Vaishnavism from different parts of Bangladesh and the neighboring Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam's Barak Valley and Meghalaya. Bauls constitute both a syncretic religious sect of troubadours and a musical tradition. Bauls are a very heterogeneous group, with many sects, but their membership mainly consists of Vaishnava Hindus and Sufi Muslims. They can often be identified by their distinctive clothes and musical instruments. Lalon Shah is regarded as the most celebrated Baul saint in history.

Lalon, also known as Lalon Shah, Lalon Fakir, Shahji and titled Fakir, Shah, was a prominent Bengali spiritual leader, philosopher, mystic poet and social reformer born in Jhenaidah, Bengal Subah. Regarded as an icon of Bengali culture, he inspired and influenced many philosophers, poets and social thinkers including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Allen Ginsberg. Lalon's philosophy of humanity rejects all distinctions of caste, class, and creed and takes stand against theological conflicts and racism. It denies all worldly affairs in search of the soul and embodied the socially transformative role of sub-continental Bhakti and Sufism.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kushtia District</span> District of Bangladesh in Khulna

Kushtia District is a district in the Khulna administrative division of western Bangladesh. Kushtia is the second largest municipality in Bangladesh and the eleventh largest city in the country. Kushtia has existed as a separate district since the partition of India. Prior to that, Kushtia was name of a subdivision of Nadia district. Kushtia is the birthplace of many historical figures including Mir Mosharraf Hossain (1847–1912), Bagha Jatin (1879–1915) and Lalon (1774–1890). Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore lived his early life at Shelaidaha, a village in the district.

Ark is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in 1991 in Dhaka City by keyboardist Ashiquzzaman Tulu. The original founder members are Ashiquzzaman Tulu, Ridwan Nabi Pancham and Shamim. As of 2017, the band line-up re-consists of lead vocalist Syed Hasanur Rahman, keyboardist Tinku Azizur Rahman and drummer Hassan Towhidur Rahman.

Shironamhin is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in Dhaka in 14 April 1996. Following as a rock group emerging from Dhaka's underground music in the late 1990s, they were distinguished for their extended psychedelic and progressive compositions, multi-instrumental experimentation, and philosophical lyrics and became one of the leading band of the Bengali progressive rock genre. In 2008, the band became a member of the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA).

<i>Moner Manush</i> 2010 film

Moner Manush is a 2010 India-Bangladesh joint venture Bengali-language biographical musical drama film based on the life and philosophy of Lalon, a noted spiritual leader, poet and folk singer of Bengal in the 19th century. Directed by Goutam Ghose, who also wrote the screenplay, the film has Prosenjit as the lead actor portraying the character of Lalan Fakir. Paoli Dam plays the character of Komli, the key female disciple of Lalan. Moner Manush has been critically and commercially successful.

Feedback is a Bangladeshi rock band, formed on 4 October 1976 in Dhaka by keyboardist Foad Nasser Babu. Multiple lineup changes have taken place since 1976. They have released seven studio albums and have also appeared in some compilations.

Warfaze is a Bangladeshi heavy metal band formed on 6 June 1984 in Dhaka by Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Meer, Helal, Naimul, and Bapi. They are one of the earliest heavy metal bands in Bangladesh. The band had numerous line-up changes since 1984 and since its inception, the band has released seven studio albums, one compilation album, and several singles. They have experimented with numerous sub-genres of rock and heavy metal over the years.

Mukul Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi lyricist and musical artist. He has written many songs for radio, television and more than hundreds of films including 'O Madhobi Go Theko Mor Antore,' 'Tumi Accho Sobi Acche,' 'Ek Chor Jay Chole' etc. He has also penned the song 'Ore Nil Doriya Amay De Re De Chhariya.'

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mausoleum of Lalon Shah</span> Mausoleum in Kushtia, Bangladesh

Mausoleum of Lalon Shah or Lalon Akhara is the burial place of Baul Emperor Lalon, and a shrine built around this grave. The shrine is located in the village of Cheuriya in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District. Lalon Shah's shrine was not built in a day, after Lalon's death in 1890, his devotees started flocking here, the shrine originated from the large number of pilgrims. His present shrine was built there in 1963 and inaugurated by the then governor of East Pakistan, Abdul Monem Khan. Today, the shrine is visited by many visitors from different countries.

Ashiquzzaman Tulu is a Bangladeshi singer, songwriter, musician, composer, lyricist, sound engineer and music director, who was the founder and leader of the popular Bangladeshi rock bands ARK and Chime. He is recognized as a pioneering figure in the music scene of Bangladesh during the 1980s and 1990s.
