Chirkutt is a Bangladeshi rock band from Dhaka, formed in 2002 by Sharmin Sultana Sumi. [1] [2]

History

This band was formed in 2002 by Sharmin Sultana Sumi. [3] Emon Chowdhury joined in 2005, Pavel Areen joined in 2008 and Jahid Nirob joined in 2015. [3] [4] Eight years after the band was formed they released their first album Chirkuttnama. [5]

Chirkutt's performed at SXSW-2016 in Austin, US [6] and South Asian Band Festival-Delhi, India, the President house concert in India-2014, India Music Week and the Jaffna Music Festival, Sri Lanka. They were also the winners of the RTV Best Band Award 2012. [2] Chirkutt band has also embarked for a tour in Norway with Norwegian rockers Casa Murilo in 2013. [7] They performed on Asian TV music show in September 2016. [8] [9]

Chirkutt in film

The band has also worked on several local film music director. They won the "SAARC" film festival award in 2016 for the best original score of the film Jalal's Story . [12] Chirkutt also have done the playback in the movies Television, [13] and Piprabidya, [14] of director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. They did the soundtrack of Aynabaji of Amitabh Reza Chowdhury 2016 film, [15] Ice cream of Redowan Rony. Chirkutt did the soundtrack of the movie Tumi Je Amar by RTV. [16] They composed the soundtrack of the 2017 movie Doob – No bed of roses.

<i>No Bed of Roses</i> 2017 Bangladeshi drama film

No Bed of Roses is a 2017 Bangladeshi-Indian drama film written and directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. It was produced by Abdul Aziz, Himanshu Dhanuka and Irrfan Khan under the banner of Jaaz Multimedia and Eskay Movies along with Irrfan Khan Films. It stars Irrfan Khan, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Rokeya Prachy and Parno Mittra. The story builds up around the members of two families discovering the finer fabric of love when the headman of a family dies. The theme is that death doesn't always take things away: Sometimes it gives back. It was selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.

Sharmin Sultana Sumi is a Bangladeshi singer, songwriter, composer, playback singer. She is a lead vocalist and founding member of the band Chirkutt. She started the band in 2002. Sumi becomes first-ever Bangladeshi to participate in Womex 21. She is the only Bangladeshi singer on the summit's list and will also be the first-ever Bangladeshi to represent the country at the world's largest music summit.

The film was released on January 31, 2004, in Bangladesh. Aupee Karim's performance, in her feature film debut, won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress.

<i>Shonibar Bikel</i> 2019 drama film

Shonibar Bikel is a 2019 Bangladeshi-German-Russian co-production film directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, a one shot political thriller, inspired from the July 2016 Dhaka attack. The film had its world premiere at the 2019 Moscow International Film Festival. The film has been cleared for release in Bangladesh by Bangladesh Film Censor Board after 4 years.

No Land's Man is a 2021 American-Bangladeshi-Indian drama film directed and written by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. The film set on a journey of a South Asian man which becomes complicated when he meets an Australian woman in America. The plot of the film deals with the fascism and the identity crisis. It stars including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Eisha Chopra, Tahsan Rahman Khan and others. The film, a joint production of United States, India, Australia and Bangladesh is produced by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Shrihari Sathe, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anjan Chowdhury, Faridur Reza Sagar and Nusrat Imrose Tisha. A.R. Rahman also joins the film as an executive producer and music composer..

Jahid Nirob born 21 October 1994 is a Bangladeshi singer and music composer best known as the member of the rock band Chirkutt. Nirob began his career when he participated in the contemporary reality show, Nescafe Get Set Rock in 2011, but didn't receive widespread recognition before joining Chirkutt in 2015.

Mostafa Monwar is a Bangladeshi actor, writer, and screenwriter known for starring as the protagonist in Live from Dhaka, for which he received 2016 Singapore International Film Festival awards for Best Performance.
