Shunno (English: Zero) is a Bangladeshi pop rock band formed in 2007 in Dhaka by Imrul Karim Emil & Shaker Raza. [1] [2] They are one of the most popular bands of Bangladesh. [3]

History

In 2007, vocalist Imrul Karim Emil and lead guitarist Shaker Raza formed Shunno. A few days later, bassist Andrew Michael Gomez and drummer Rafatul Bari Labib joined them. [4] They began their journey with the song called Prottasha of Fuad al Muqtadir's Bonno album.

In 2008, a song titled Shopnoghuri was released on the mixed album Rang. They also released their debut album Notun Srot.

In 2009, Shunno's second album Shoto Asha was released. The song Shoto Asha from this album became very popular and Grameenphone used the song as the theme song for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. [3] [4]

In 2011, Gorbo Bangladesh, their third album was released by Shunno.

In 2014, their fourth album Bhaago was released. The album contains the song Shono Mohajon, [5] a song about the experience of oppression under dictatorship, which eventually became famous as the "unofficial anthem of Bangladesh" during the Student–People's uprising in 2024. [6] [7]

In 2016, Ishmamul Farhad joined the band as lead guitarist, replacing Shaker Raza.

In 2017, Their fifth album Lottery was released. [8] [9]

In 2021, Shunno released a song called Bibiya on 1 January with Brishty Dessa writing its lyrics. Bibiya is a story of the south and is a lullaby of a fisherman who is putting off his daughter to sleep before he heads off for his work to the ever so unpredictable sea. [10] Shunno's song Behula was released on 20 March with Tanvir Chowdhury writing its lyrics and was a big hit. Behula is a story of the north and the song represents the mythical story of Behula and is based on Shiva Purana and the Manasamangal genre of Bengali medieval epics. The song had the first animated music video which portrayed instincts of a legendary myth and a video game. [11]

They performed maximum shows at Joy Bangla Concert which is the most popular concert in the country from 2015 till now. [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17]

Shironamhin is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in Dhaka in 14 April 1996. Following as a rock group emerging from Dhaka's underground music in the late 1990s, they were distinguished for their extended psychedelic and progressive compositions, multi-instrumental experimentation, and philosophical lyrics and became one of the leading band of the Bengali progressive rock genre. In 2008, the band became a member of the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA).

Zulfiqer Russell is a Bangladeshi lyricist and journalist. He is currently the editor of the online news site, The Bangla Tribune. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the film Putro (2018). He was the winner of the Channel i Music Awards in 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2022 and also received the Mirchi Music Awards (Bangla) award for the Song of the Year in the Modern Song category for, "Shabuj Chilo". On 2020 he was awarded CJFB Performance Award 2019 as best lyricist. He had also worked with renowned Indian singers and composers including Grammy and Academy Award (Oscar) winner musician A. R. Rahman. He wrote the official theme song 'Ektai Achhe Desh' of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh Independence sang by fifty renowned singers of Bangladesh.

She also received Channel i Performance Award (2008) and the Meril-Prothom Alo Award (2008). She served as a judge for the reality television music show CloseUp 1. Bangladeshi rock music, or Bangla rock music, is a style of music in Bangladesh that is derived from British and American rock music, mixed with the Bengali classical and Adhunik musical styles from the 1960s. The genre was introduced in the 1960s by a few bands who began developing a distinctive rock sound. Bangladeshi rock is commonly divided into two categories: East Pakistan rock, and Bangladesh rock. From the 1970s to the 2000s, it was one of the nation's most popular musical genres.

Warfaze is a Bangladeshi heavy metal band formed on 6 June 1984 in Dhaka by Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Meer, Helal, Naimul, and Bapi. They are one of the earliest heavy metal bands in Bangladesh. The band had numerous line-up changes since 1984 and since its inception, the band has released seven studio albums, one compilation album, and several singles. Kazi Md. Ali Jahangir, mononymously known as Balam, is a Bangladeshi singer, guitarist, composer, and music producer. He was born in Dhamaron village in Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj (Bikrampur) district. He used to be the lead guitarist/vocalist for the band Warfaze. Later he introduced himself as a solo singer.

Prince Mahmud is a Bangladeshi lyricist, composer and music director, who has been writing and composing songs for solo and joint albums of band artists in Bangladesh since the 90's. Many of his songs gained wide popularity. His first mixed album Shakti (1995) propelled his journey as a composer of mixed albums, which immediately garnered him a massive success. In a career spanning more than three decades, Mahmud has released 50 albums including solo, duets and mixed. He is widely regarded as the greatest lyricist and composer of his time.

The first edition of the Bangladeshi music television series Coke Studio Bangla aired starting from 7 February to 1 September 2022. The season was produced by Shayan Chowdhury Arnob and distributed by Coca-Cola Bangladesh.

Mohammad Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan (Manik) is a Bangladeshi businessman, sports organizer, and politician. He is the chairman of Toma Group, a major Bangladeshi conglomerate. He is the vice-president of the Bangladesh Football Federation, the associate of FIFA in Bangladesh.
