Shunno (English: Zero) is a Bangladeshi pop rock band formed in 2007 in Dhaka by Imrul Karim Emil & Shaker Raza. [1] [2] They are one of the most popular bands of Bangladesh. [3]
In 2007, vocalist Imrul Karim Emil and lead guitarist Shaker Raza formed Shunno. A few days later, bassist Andrew Michael Gomez and drummer Rafatul Bari Labib joined them. [4] They began their journey with the song called Prottasha of Fuad al Muqtadir's Bonno album.
In 2008, a song titled Shopnoghuri was released on the mixed album Rang. They also released their debut album Notun Srot.
In 2009, Shunno's second album Shoto Asha was released. The song Shoto Asha from this album became very popular and Grameenphone used the song as the theme song for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. [3] [4]
In 2011, Gorbo Bangladesh, their third album was released by Shunno.
In 2014, their fourth album Bhaago was released. The album contains the song Shono Mohajon, [5] a song about the experience of oppression under dictatorship, which eventually became famous as the "unofficial anthem of Bangladesh" during the Student–People's uprising in 2024. [6] [7]
In 2016, Ishmamul Farhad joined the band as lead guitarist, replacing Shaker Raza.
In 2017, Their fifth album Lottery was released. [8] [9]
In 2021, Shunno released a song called Bibiya on 1 January with Brishty Dessa writing its lyrics. Bibiya is a story of the south and is a lullaby of a fisherman who is putting off his daughter to sleep before he heads off for his work to the ever so unpredictable sea. [10] Shunno's song Behula was released on 20 March with Tanvir Chowdhury writing its lyrics and was a big hit. Behula is a story of the north and the song represents the mythical story of Behula and is based on Shiva Purana and the Manasamangal genre of Bengali medieval epics. The song had the first animated music video which portrayed instincts of a legendary myth and a video game. [11]

Ayub Bachchu was a Bangladeshi rock guitarist, composer, singer and songwriter, who was the founder of the Bangladeshi rock band Love Runs Blind and earned success as the lead singer and the lead guitarist of the band. He is considered as one of the greatest singers of all time in Bangladesh and a pop culture icon. He was one of the pioneers of Bangladeshi pop music.

Ark is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in 1991 in Dhaka City by keyboardist Ashiquzzaman Tulu. The original founder members are Ashiquzzaman Tulu, Ridwan Nabi Pancham and Shamim. As of 2017, the band line-up re-consists of lead vocalist Syed Hasanur Rahman, keyboardist Tinku Azizur Rahman and drummer Hassan Towhidur Rahman.
Shironamhin is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in Dhaka in 14 April 1996. Following as a rock group emerging from Dhaka's underground music in the late 1990s, they were distinguished for their extended psychedelic and progressive compositions, multi-instrumental experimentation, and philosophical lyrics and became one of the leading band of the Bengali progressive rock genre. In 2008, the band became a member of the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA).
Zulfiqer Russell is a Bangladeshi lyricist and journalist. He is currently the editor of the online news site, The Bangla Tribune. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the film Putro (2018). He was the winner of the Channel i Music Awards in 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2022 and also received the Mirchi Music Awards (Bangla) award for the Song of the Year in the Modern Song category for, "Shabuj Chilo". On 2020 he was awarded CJFB Performance Award 2019 as best lyricist. He had also worked with renowned Indian singers and composers including Grammy and Academy Award (Oscar) winner musician A. R. Rahman. He wrote the official theme song 'Ektai Achhe Desh' of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh Independence sang by fifty renowned singers of Bangladesh.
Fahmida Nabi is a Bangladeshi singer. She usually vocalizes classical and modern-style songs. She also sang songs of Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti genre. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in the film Aha! (2007). She also received Channel i Performance Award (2008) and the Meril-Prothom Alo Award (2008). She served as a judge for the reality television music show CloseUp 1. She is an ambassador of Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP).

Warfaze is a Bangladeshi heavy metal band formed on 6 June 1984 in Dhaka by Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Meer, Helal, Naimul, and Bapi. They are one of the earliest heavy metal bands in Bangladesh. The band had numerous line-up changes since 1984 and since its inception, the band has released seven studio albums, one compilation album, and several singles. They have experimented with numerous sub-genres of rock and heavy metal over the years.
Joy Bangla is a slogan and was a war cry used in Bangladesh and in the Indian state of West Bengal to indicate nationalism towards the geopolitical, cultural and historical region of Bengal and Bangamata. It translates roughly to "Victory to Bengal" or "Hail Bengal".
Tahsan Rahman Khan is a Bangladeshi musician, actor and television presenter. He was the former keyboardist and second vocalist of the Grunge and alternative rock band Black. Currently he is the lead singer of his own band called Tahsan and the Band.

Prince Mahmud is a Bangladeshi lyricist, composer and music director, who has been writing and composing songs for solo and joint albums of band artists in Bangladesh since the 90's. Many of his songs gained wide popularity. His first mixed album Shakti (1995) propelled his journey as a composer of mixed albums, which immediately garnered him a massive success. In a career spanning more than three decades, Mahmud has released 50 albums including solo, duets and mixed. He is widely regarded as the greatest lyricist and composer of his time.
