Liam Firus (born July 2, 1992) is a Canadian businessman and partner at Rockbank Capital Corp. A retired competitive figure skater, he represented Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
Liam Firus was born July 2, 1992, in North Vancouver, British Columbia. [2] [3] He is the son of Lois Sullivan, a real estate agent, and Trevor Firus, an accountant. [4] He has a younger brother, Shane, who competes in ice dancing. [5]
Firus attended Sentinel Secondary School in West Vancouver. [6] After part-time business administration studies at Capilano University, [7] Firus became a student at Athabasca University, pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in finance. [8] In 2013, he passed the Canadian Securities Course. [9]
Firus began dating Canadian pairs figure skater Kirsten Moore-Towers in 2015. [10] On August 22, 2023, they became engaged. [11]
Firus started skating as a hockey player in 1999 and eventually switched to figure skating. [7] Lorna Bauer began teaching him when he was eight years old. [6] A member of the North Shore's Vancouver Skating Club, he trained in the fall and winter at the Pacific National Exhibition Agrodome and the rest of the year at the Canlan Ice Sports Arena. [7]
During the 2009–2010 season, Firus won the Canadian junior title but was not assigned to the World Junior Championships. [7]
Firus finished 6th in his senior national debut at the 2011 Canadian Championships and was assigned to the World Junior Championships where he finished 20th.
Firus began the 2011–2012 season by winning the bronze medal at the Junior Grand Prix event in Brisbane, Australia.
Firus experienced severe pelvic pain while training for the Canadian Championships. [9] He placed fifth at the event in January 2013. His condition developed into osteitis pubis and he decided to undergo prolotherapy. [9] He resumed training after five months. [8]
In autumn 2013, Firus began training under Christy Krall in Colorado Springs, Colorado. [9] [12] He won bronze at the 2014 Canadian Championships and was named to the Canadian team at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He finished 28th in Sochi. [3]
Firus placed 11th at the 2014 Skate Canada International in Kelowna, British Columbia and won the bronze medal at the 2015 Canadian Championships in Kingston, Ontario. He finished 15th at the 2015 Four Continents Championships.
Firus won silver at the 2016 Canadian Nationals and finished 13th at the 2016 Four Continents Championships. He withdrew from the 2016 World Championships in Boston, stating "Making this decision was extremely difficult. However, I feel that withdrawing from the World Championships is vital for our team." Ahead of the season, Firus changed coaches, joining Bruno Marcotte in Montreal, Quebec. [5]
Firus won the bronze medal at the 2017 CS Warsaw Cup in Poland. A few days later, he was invited to a Grand Prix event, 2017 Skate America, receiving the call on the Wednesday morning before the event. [14] He officially announced his retirement on May 14, 2018. [1]

Bruno Marcotte is a Canadian figure skating coach and former competitor in pairs. He is the 1993 World Junior bronze medallist with Isabelle Coulombe and the 2000 Nebelhorn Trophy champion with Valérie Marcoux.
Kevin Reynolds is a retired Canadian figure skater. He is the 2013 Four Continents champion, 2010 Four Continents bronze medallist, 2014 Winter Olympics team silver medallist and a six-time Canadian national medallist. His highest place at a World Championship is fifth, achieved at 2013 World Championships. On the junior level, he is the 2006 JGP Final bronze medallist.
Jeremy Ten is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. He is the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medallist, 2014 CS Autumn Classic bronze medallist, and a three-time Canadian national medallist. He competed in the free skate at seven ISU Championships.
Takahito Mura is a Japanese former competitive figure skater. He is the 2014 Four Continents champion, 2014 Skate Canada International champion, and 2012 Trophée Éric Bompard champion. Nationally, he is a five-time Japan Championships bronze medalist and 2007 Japan Junior champion.
Alexei Bychenko is a retired Ukrainian-born Israeli figure skater. He represented Ukraine through 2009 and Israel after that. He is the 2016 European Figure Skating Championships silver medalist and 2016 Rostelecom Cup bronze medalist. He is the first Israeli skater to medal at the European Championships. He placed fourth at 2018 Worlds. Bychenko competed for Israel at the 2014, 2018, and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Michal Březina is a retired Czech figure skater. He is the 2013 European bronze medalist, 2011 Skate America champion, 2009 World Junior silver medalist and four-time Czech national champion. He also won the 2014-15 ISU Challenger Series. Michal represented the Czech Republic at the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Kerstin Frank is an Austrian former competitive figure skater. She is a six-time national champion and represented Austria at the 2014 Winter Olympics. She has won eleven international medals and reached the free skate at nine ISU Championships.
Lloyd Jones is a Welsh-French former competitive ice dancer. He represented France from 2009 to 2014. With Pernelle Carron, he is the 2011 Cup of China bronze medalist, 2013 Winter Universiade champion, 2010 Cup of Nice champion, three-time NRW Trophy champion, and 2010 French national champion. The two competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Earlier in his career, Jones competed for Great Britain.
Peter Liebers is a German former competitive figure skater. He is the 2015 Winter Universiade champion, the 2010 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist, the 2012 Ice Challenge champion, and a six-time German national champion. He placed eighth at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and as high as sixth at the European Championships.
Mitchell Islam is a Canadian former competitive ice dancer. He teamed up with partner Alexandra Paul in 2009. They are the 2010 World Junior silver medalists, 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalists, and three-time Canadian national bronze medalists. They competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Abzal Rakimgaliev is a Kazakhstani figure skater. He is the 2007 Kazakhstani national champion and has won seven senior international medals. He competed at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, where he placed 26th, and at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, where he placed 22nd.
Alexandra Jane Paul was a Canadian competitive ice dancer. With her skating partner and eventual husband, Mitchell Islam, she won the silver medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships. In their senior career, Paul and Islam were the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalists, three-time Canadian national bronze medalists, and represented their country at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Kirsten Moore-Towers is a Canadian retired competitive pair skater who competed internationally at the senior level for thirteen seasons from 2009 to 2022. She first achieved distinction partnered with Dylan Moscovitch, winning the 2011 Canadian national title. The two won silver at the 2013 Four Continents Championships, as well as seven medals on the ISU Grand Prix, qualifying to three Grand Prix Finals and finishing fourth at two consecutive World Championships. As part of the Canadian team at the 2014 Winter Olympics, Moore-Towers/Moscovitch won an Olympic silver medal in the figure skating team event.
Yan Han is a Chinese competitive figure skater. He is a three-time Four Continents bronze medalist, the 2013 Cup of China champion and a four-time Chinese national champion.
Michael Marinaro is a Canadian retired competitive pair skater. In an eight-year partnership with Kirsten Moore-Towers from 2014 to 2022, he achieved distinction both domestically and internationally, winning three Canadian national titles. Competing internationally, they are two-time Four Continents medallists, and have won medals on both the Grand Prix and Challenger series, including gold at the 2019 Nebelhorn Trophy and the 2017 U.S. International Classic. The two represented Canada at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Nam Nguyen is a Canadian retired competitive figure skater. He is the 2014 World Junior champion, 2019 Skate Canada silver medallist, and two-time Canadian national champion. He has placed as high as fifth at the World Championships, in 2015.
Nathalie Weinzierl is a German figure skater. She is a two-time German national champion and has won eleven senior international medals, including gold at the Bavarian Open, Dragon Trophy, and Egna Trophy, and Merano Cup. She has placed as high as 7th at the European Championships and competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Anne Line Gjersem is a Norwegian retired figure skater. She is the 2015 Nordic silver medalist, the 2015 Denkova-Staviski Cup bronze medalist, and a three-time Norwegian national champion. She represented Norway at the 2014 Winter Olympics and has reached the free skate at six ISU Championships.
Shane Firus is an ice dancer who represents Ireland and formerly Canada. With his skating partner, Carolane Soucisse, he is a two-time Irish national champion (2023-24). Skating with Soucisse for Canada, he is the 2018 Four Continents silver medallist. They have finished fourth at the 2017 and 2018 Canadian Championships and represented Canada on the Grand Prix circuit and at the World Championships and Ireland at the European and World Championships.
