Lynchburg is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 75,568, estimated to have risen to 82,168 as of 2019. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the banks of the James River, Lynchburg is known as the "City of Seven Hills" or the "Hill City". In the 1860s, Lynchburg was the only major city in Virginia that was not recaptured by the Union before the end of the American Civil War.

The Ellsworth Mountains are the highest mountain ranges in Antarctica, forming a 350 km (217 mi) long and 48 km (30 mi) wide chain of mountains in a north to south configuration on the western margin of the Ronne Ice Shelf in Marie Byrd Land. They are bisected by Minnesota Glacier to form the Sentinel Range to the north and the Heritage Range to the south. The former is by far the higher and more spectacular with Mount Vinson constituting the highest point on the continent. The mountains are located within the Chilean Antarctic territorial claim but outside of the Argentinian and British ones.
West Liberty University (WLU) is a public university in West Liberty, West Virginia. It is West Virginia's oldest institution of higher education. It offers more than 70 undergraduate majors plus graduate programs, including a master's degree in education and an online MBA. WLU's athletic teams, known as the Hilltoppers, are charter members of the NCAA Division II Mountain East Conference with nearly 400 student-athletes participating in 18 intercollegiate sports, including football, basketball, wrestling, track, tennis, baseball.

The Great Seal of the State of West Virginia was adopted in September 1863. The obverse center of the seal contains a boulder that has been inscribed June 20, 1863, the date West Virginia became a state. In front of the boulder lie two crossed rifles and a liberty cap as a symbol of the state's fight for liberty. The two men on either side of the boulder represent agriculture and industry. On the left stands a farmer with an ax and plow before a cornstalk. On the other side stands a miner with a pickax, and behind him an anvil and sledge hammer. The outer ring contains the text "State of West Virginia" and the state's motto "Montani Semper Liberi",. The reverse of the seal, also called the lesser seal, is the official seal of the Governor. Its motto reads "Libertas E Fidelitate".
Southern West Virginia is a culturally and geographically distinct region in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Southern West Virginia is known for its coal mining heritage and Southern affinity. The region is also closely identified with southwestern Virginia and southeastern Kentucky, with close proximity to western North Carolina and East Tennessee. Today, Southern West Virginia continues to grapple with poverty and continuing population loss. Almost the entire region is located in West Virginia's 3rd congressional district, which was represented by Evan Jenkins until he resigned on September 30, 2018 to take a seat as a justice on the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
Short Creek is an unincorporated community in Brooke County, West Virginia, United States. Approximately 1/2 mile from the Ohio River, Short Creek flows from northern Ohio County into Brooke County. The creek, Short Creek, has two forks, North and South Fork. Both forks rise in the very western reaches of Washington County, and very southwestern Allegheny County, in Pennsylvania. There are several very small settlements along the creek. There were small family farms and coal mines along the creek.

The 1964 Liberty Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 19, 1964, at the Atlantic City Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was the sixth edition of the Liberty Bowl, and featured the Utah Utes and the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Liberty High School is a consolidated high school in rural Raleigh County, West Virginia, located in the town of Glen Daniel, West Virginia. The school, along with sister school and rival Independence High School was built in 1976, and the name is a reflection of that. The school was always intended to incorporate the previous Trap Hill, Clear Fork, and Marsh Fork high schools, but legal wrangling kept the later two from consolidation until the 1990s.
The 2014 Liberty Bowl was an American college football bowl game played on December 29, 2014, at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. The 56th edition of the Liberty Bowl, it featured the Texas A&M Aggies of the Southeastern Conference and the West Virginia Mountaineers of the Big 12 Conference. It began at 1:00 p.m. CST and aired on ESPN. It was one of the 2014–15 bowl games that concluded the 2014 FBS football season. Sponsored by automobile parts and accessories store AutoZone, it was officially known as the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Oliver M. Olson was an American football, basketball, track, and cross country coach. He served as the head football coach at Macalester College (1939–1942), Black Hills Teachers College—now known as Black Hills State University (1946–1947), Beloit College (1948–1949), Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois (1950), and West Liberty University (1957–1958). Olson was also the head basketball coach Augustana during the 1950–51 season and at West Liberty, serving two stints (1953–1957) and (1959–1964), leading his team to one West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) regular season championship (1961) and three conference tournament titles.

It was the 62nd edition of the Liberty Bowl, and was one of the 2020–21 bowl games concluding the 2020 FBS football season. Sponsored by automotive retailer AutoZone, the game was officially known as the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
The 2021 West Virginia Mountaineers football team will represent the University of West Virginia during the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Mountaineers will play their home games at the Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, West Virginia, and will compete in the Big 12 Conference. The team will be coached by third-year head coach Neal Brown.
