Matthew Peter DeLuca (born April 4, 2005), known professionally as Lil Mabu, is an American rapper, songwriter, and internet personality from Manhattan, New York. He first gained recognition in 2020 for his viral hit "Miss Me" from his early releases. He then released his debut mixtape Double M's in June 2022. [1] [2]

Mabu's single "Mathematical Disrespect" (2023) marked his breakthrough into mainstream success, charting in the US, UK, and Ireland. Following this, he released the track "Rich Scholar" and announced his enrollment at Emory University. [3]

Mabu is known for his blend of Brooklyn drill and satirical rap style, as well as being a fully independent artist. [4] Mabu has collaborated with artists such as YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Fivio Foreign, DD Osama, and Chrisean Rock .

Career

Mabu started his rap career in 2018. He gained traction with the release of his song "Miss Me" in 2020. [5] In 2022, his song "No Snitching" a collaboration with Dusty Locane, became increasingly popular on the social media app TikTok. [6] Mabu's debut mixtape, Double M's, was released on June 30, 2022, which featured guest appearances from Dusty Locane, Sha EK, Dougie B, DThang and Rah Swish. [7]

On December 23, 2022, he released a song titled "Throw" featuring New York drill rapper DD Osama, which was the number one trending music video on YouTube for a week at the time of its release.

In May 2023, Mabu released the song "Mathematical Disrespect". [8] It charted in the US, UK and Ireland, becoming his first entry on any worldwide major music chart. [9] [10] A month later, he graduated from high school and released another single, titled "Rich Scholar". On August 22, 2023, he announced that he was going to college and on September 1, released the single "At What Cost?" accompanied by a music video.

On October 17, 2023, Mabu and rapper Chrisean Rock released "Mr. Take Ya Bitch", a diss track aimed at Blueface and his manager Wack 100. [11] It quickly charted on both Billboard 's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot 100 chart, peaking at numbers 33 and 96 respectively. Additionally, it charted on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, peaking at number one by November 2, 2023. [12]

On December 21, 2023, Mabu and rapper Fivio Foreign released "Teach Me How to Drill", [13] accompanied by a music video, [14] which was the number-one trending music video on YouTube at one point.

Additionally, Mabu has worked with artists such as PnB Rock, EJ Banks, Howiee OO, Chrisean Rock, ZayBinSteppin, Kay Flock, Dougie B, DThang, DD Osama, Fivio Foreign and more.

Controversy

On 2024 May 6th, a YouTuber by the name of "The Buckingham Show" posted a video of an interaction between his friend "Tommy G" and Lil Mabu, he claimed that Lil Mabu told Tommy G to put his song in his video and Lil Mabu would blacklist the YouTube video from a copyright strike, "The Buckingham Show" claimed that Lil Mabu didn't blacklist the video and ignored Tommy when Tommy confronted Lil Mabu about this, shortly after the video came out, Lil Mabu payed back Tommy and Tommy commented under the original video claiming "Folks, Mabu donated $12,000 to the Milwaukee Wrestling Academy. He handled the situation like a gentleman and I'm happy it is resolved.", claiming that they worked out a deal and they decided to donate the money that was lost. [15]
