Linda Margaret Hepner (born May 16,1949) [1] is a Canadian politician,who served as the 36th mayor of Surrey,British Columbia as of the 2014 municipal election. [2] She currently serves as the Conservative MLA for Surrey-Serpentine River since 2024.
After joining the city staff as a manager in 1985, [1] Hepner was first elected to Surrey City Council in 2005 on Doug McCallum's Surrey Electors Team slate; [1] however,McCallum himself was defeated in the mayoral race by Dianne Watts,and Hepner joined Watts' Surrey First team. [1]
During her time as Mayor,Hepner as stated that she will "break ground" with Surrey's LRT,starting with phase 1.
Hepner decided not to seek re-election and appointed Surrey First City Councillor Tom Gill to run for mayor on the Surrey First slate. [3] [4] On October 20,2018,former mayor Doug McCallum was elected to succeed her in the 2018 Surrey municipal election.
On June 20,2024,Hepner was nominated as a Conservative Party of British Columbia candidate for the 2024 British Columbia general election,running in the Surrey-Serpentine River riding. [5]
Hepner's only son,Gordon Hepner,is a city councillor in Surrey,and she has two grandsons through him. [6] [7] Hepner is currently married to Alan McMillan,who is an administrator the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. [8] [9]

Surrey (/ˈsɝɹi/) is a city in British Columbia,Canada. It is located south of the Fraser River on the Canada–United States border. It is a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver regional district and metropolitan area. Mainly a suburban city,Surrey is the province's second-largest by population after Vancouver and the third-largest by area after Abbotsford and Prince George. The Surrey Light Rail system was a planned 10.5-kilometre (6.5 mi) network in Surrey,British Columbia containing one light rail line radiating from the Surrey Central SkyTrain station and transit hub. First proposed in 2012 by Surrey mayor Dianne Watts,construction on the project was planned to start in 2019 with an opening date set for 2024. At the inauguration of the new Surrey City Council on November 5,2018,and after a change of municipal leadership,the newly installed council unanimously voted to "indefinitely suspend" the project in favour of an extension of the SkyTrain Expo Line to Langley Centre.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is a municipal police force in the city of Surrey,British Columbia,Canada. It is one of several police departments within the Metro Vancouver Regional District,and as of December 2022,the second largest municipal police service in British Columbia. Prior to the SPS's establishment,Surrey was Canada's largest city without a municipal police service. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police,Canada's federal police force,currently has policing jurisdiction in Surrey,and SPS has had difficulty with the transition from the RCMP due to opposition from Surrey mayor Brenda Locke and the municipal government. In April of 2024 the provincial government of British Columbia set a deadline for the transfer of jurisdiction. The Surrey Police Service will transition into the role of municipal policing in Surrey on November 29,2024.
