In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer") [1] [2] refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement. [3] The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in Bangladesh which has been held annually since its first season in 2012. [4] Though Following the match fixing scandal, the league was not played in the year 2014. It started again at year 2015, the third season of this tournament. [5] In the eight seasons played, sixteen five-wicket hauls have been taken by fifteen different bowlers. [6]

The first five-wicket haul was taken by Mohammad Sami of the Duronto Rajshahi against the Dhaka Gladiators on 27 February 2012. [7] Sami took five wickets for six runs. The most recent five-wicket haul was taken by Mustafizur Rahman of the Comilla Victorians against Chattogram in Dhaka on 3 February 2022. Mohammad Amir of Khulna Tigers has the best bowling figures in an innings by a player in the competition. It was also the only six-wicket haul. Sami's five wicket haul was also the most economical five-wicket haul. He took five wickets with an economy rate of 1.80 and a bowling average of 1.20 in that match. Al-Amin Hossain of the Barisal Bulls took the least economical five-wicket haul, bowling with an economy rate of 9.00. [8]

Thisara Perera is the only cricketer to take multiple five-wicket hauls. Fourteen five-wicket hauls have been taken at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Al-Amin Hossain of Barisal Bulls is the only bowler to take a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul in a Bangladesh Premier League Match. [9]

The 2017 season and 2019–20 season has seen the most number of five-wicket hauls in one season. Four five-wicket hauls had been taken in those seasons. While the 2013 and 2019 seasons had the fewest five-wicket hauls where no bowler could pick up a five-wicket haul. [6] Thirteen times out of sixteen times a team won, when a player of that team picked up a five-wicket haul. Shakib Al Hasan and Nasir Hossain are the only players to take five-wicket haul while captaining their side. Shakib captained Dhaka Dynamites and Nasir captained the Sylhet Sixers.

Shahadat Hossain is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He made his Test debut in 2005 during Bangladesh's first tour of England. When he came to play in the international scene he was cited by the then coach Dav Whatmore as the fastest bowler in the team. The following year, Hossain made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Kenya. At times Hossain had struggled with conceding too many runs, and for that reason was dropped in 2009. In November 2010, Hossain was a member of the squad that won Bangladesh's first gold in any event at the Asian Games. A broken toe prevented Hossain from playing for Bangladesh in July 2011, but after more than a year since his last Test he returned to the squad in October that year. Enamul Haque – also known as Enamul Haque Jr to distinguish him from Enamul Haque, who also played for Bangladesh, but was not related to him – is a Bangladeshi cricketer. Yeasin Arafat Mishu is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Chittagong Division in the 2016–17 National Cricket League on 25 September 2016. He took a five-wicket haul in the first innings and was named man of the match. He made his List A debut for Brothers Union in the 2016–17 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on 20 April 2017.

The Dhaka Platoon, formerly known as the Dhaka Dynamites, is a franchise cricket team that plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), representing the country's Dhaka Division. Following the 2012 competition, the Platoon are one of the BPL's seven existing members. The team is headquartered at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, and so is one of three teams playing in the city, alongside the Dhaka Division cricket team and Dhaka Metropolis cricket team which are active in first-class cricket.
