Barys Astana is a professional ice hockey team based in Astana, Kazakhstan. They play in the Chernyshev Division of the Eastern Conference in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The team founded in 1999. Barys is owned by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Rail Ways), Nurlan Orazbayev is their president, Vadim Gusseinov is their general manager, Andrei Nazarov is their head coach and Brandon Bochenski is the team captain.

There have been 11 head coaches for the team. The Barys's first head coach was Nikolai Myshagin, who coached for four seasons. Alexander Vysotsky is the first Barys head coach to have won the major trophy. He guided Barys to Kazakhstan Hockey Championship win in 2007. He is also coached the team at those inaugural season in the Kontinental Hockey League, however was replaced by Andrei Shayanov in mid-season. On June 4, 2013, Ari-Pekka Selin signed a 2-year contract and announced as a new head coach of Barys for 2013–14 KHL season. [1] On June 18, 2014, the KHL reported that Andrei Nazarov would move from Donbass Donetsk to become the new head coach at Barys, replacing Ari-Pekka Selin who had been sacked as coach of the Kazakhstan men's national ice hockey team on June 11 for unsatisfactory result in the 2014 IIHF World Championship. Andrei Valentinovich Khomutov is a Russian former ice hockey right winger. He was the head coach for Barys Astana of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Kazakhstan national team during 2010–2011 season. He played for CSKA Moscow from 1979 to 1990, then in Switzerland for HC Fribourg-Gottéron from 1990 to 1998. He was most valuable player in the Soviet league in 1990, and also led the league in goals in 1988.

Maxim Petrovich Semyonov is a Kazakhstani professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for Barys Nur-Sultan in the KHL. He participated at the 2010 IIHF World Championship as a member of the Kazakhstan men's national ice hockey team.

Hockey Club Barys, also referred to as Barys Astana or HC Barys, is a professional ice hockey team based in Astana, Kazakhstan. It is one of the founding members of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). They play in the league's Chernyshev Division of the Eastern Conference. Their home arena is the Barys Arena, where they have played since the 2015–16 KHL season. Prior to 2015, the team played home games at the Kazakhstan Sports Palace for 14 seasons, beginning in 2001. The head coach is Andrei Skabelka and the president is Boris Ivanishchev. The team serves as a base club for the Kazakhstan national ice hockey team.

Andrei Vladimirovich Spiridonov is a Kazakhstani professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with the HK Almaty of the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship.

Anatoli Mikhailovich Melikhov is a Kazakhstani professional ice hockey coach. He coached the Barys Astana in 2003–04 season. He has also served as head coach of Kazakhstan men's national under-18 ice hockey team in 2004.

The 2013–14 Barys Astana season was the Kontinental Hockey League franchise's 6th season of play and 15th season overall. Barys posted a regular season record of 26 wins, 18 losses, 6 overtime/shootout wins and 4 overtime/shootout losses for 94 points. As a result, Barys won Chernyshev Division and finished 2nd in the Eastern Conference. The team qualified to playoffs a ten games before the end of the regular season on January 16, 2014. Barys ended the 2013–14 regular season as the Eastern Conference's second seed. In the first round of the 2014 Gagarin Cup playoffs, Barys defeated Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg 4-0 in series. Barys lost to Salavat Yulaev Ufa in semifinals 2-4 in series.

Nikita Yurevich Mikhailis is a Kazakhstani professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Mikhailis began playing professionally at the age of 16 with the Nomad Astana of the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship. He played one season with Nomad, during which time he was selected 121st overall by the Barys in the 2012 KHL Junior Draft.
