It was released in China by Le Vision Pictures on 30 September 2016 in 3D and IMAX 3D. A sequel was released via online streaming on Tencent Video on 4 December 2020. The first sequel was also released on Netflix in December 2022.

Originally slated to be released in China on 6 July 2018, it was later announced on 27 June that the release would be postponed to a later date due to political reasons. Eventually Fan Bingbing's character was replaced in the movie, and it was released via online streaming on Tencent Video on 4 December 2020. This is Kris Wu's final film.
