Simon Lavoie is a Canadian film director and screenwriter from Quebec. He is best known as codirector with Mathieu Denis of Those Who Make Revolution Halfway Only Dig Their Own Graves , which won the award for Best Canadian Film at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and garnered several Canadian Screen Award nominations at the 5th Canadian Screen Awards in 2017, including for Best Picture and Best Director.

The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches is a 2017 Canadian drama film directed by Simon Lavoie and starring Marine Johnson, Antoine L'Écuyer and Jean-François Casabonne. Lavoie also wrote the screenplay. An adaptation of Gaétan Soucy's novel of the same name, the film centres on Alice Soissons, a girl raised to believe she is a boy, who lives in with her father and brother in oppressive and secluded conditions. When her father dies, she ventures into the village, where outsiders tell her she is female, and she fears the family home is now under threat.

Québec Cinéma presents an annual award for Best Director to recognize the best in the Cinema of Quebec.

<i>Antigone</i> (2019 film) 2019 film

Antigone is a 2019 Canadian drama film directed by Sophie Deraspe. An adaptation of the ancient Greek play Antigone by Sophocles, the film transposes the story to a modern-day refugee family in Montreal. The cast includes Nahéma Ricci as Antigone, with Rawad El-Zein, Hakim Brahimi, Rachida Oussaada, and Nour Belkhiria. It was filmed in Greater Montreal in 2018.

Sympathy for the Devil is a 2019 war drama film directed by Guillaume de Fontenay and released in 2019. Based on the book of the same name by French war correspondent Paul Marchand, the film stars Niels Schneider as Marchand covering the Bosnian War in the 1990s.

<i>Ill End Up in Jail</i> 2019 Canadian film

I'll End Up in Jail is a Canadian short drama film, directed by Alexandre Dostie and released in 2019. The film stars Martine Francke as an unhappy housewife who is attempting to escape her life, when she arrives at the scene of a fatal car accident and is convinced by its perpetrator Jelly to help him try to hide the dead body in the forest.

The Prix Iris for Best Documentary Film is an annual film award presented by Québec Cinéma as part of its Prix Iris program, to honour the year's best documentary film made within the cinema of Quebec.

<i>Maria Chapdelaine</i> (2021 film) 2021 Canadian film

Maria Chapdelaine is a Canadian drama film, directed by Sébastien Pilote and scheduled for release on September 24, 2021. An adaptation of Louis Hémon's 1913 novel Maria Chapdelaine, the film stars Sara Montpetit as the titular Maria Chapdelaine, a young woman in rural Péribonka, Quebec, who is torn between three suitors: François Paradis, a coureur de bois; Eutrope Gagnon, a local farmer; and Lorenzo Surprenant, a wealthy man who offers the promise of life in the United States.

<i>Underground</i> (2020 film) 2020 Canadian film

Underground is a 2020 Canadian drama film, written and directed by Sophie Dupuis. Produced by the Montreal based company Bravo Charlie, the film stars Joakim Robillard as Maxime, a troubled miner in Val-d’Or, Quebec, who must attempt to rescue his coworkers when an explosion happens inside the mine.

Whitney Lafleur is a Canadian actress from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. She is most noted for her performance in the 2016 film Split (Écartée), for which she received a Prix Iris nomination for Revelation of the Year at the 19th Quebec Cinema Awards in 2017.

<i>Drunken Birds</i> 2021 Canadian drama film

Drunken Birds is a 2021 Canadian drama film directed by Ivan Grbovic who co-wrote with Sara Mishara. The film stars Jorge Antonio Guerrero as Willy, a Mexican drug runner in a crime cartel who travels to Canada in search of his girlfriend Marlena after she disappears, and takes a job as a migrant worker on a farm in the Montérégie region.

Confessions of a Hitman is a Canadian crime drama film, directed by Luc Picard and released in 2021. Based on Gallant: confessions d’un tueur à gages, a 2015 non-fiction book written by Éric Thibault and Félix Séguin about Canadian contract killer Gerald Gallant, the film stars Picard as Gallant.
