Leinster Lightning was formed in 2013 and became a Twenty20 team in 2017. They played their first Twenty20 match in the 2017 Inter-Provincial Trophy against North West Warriors. In total, 31 players have appeared in Twenty20 cricket for Leinster Lightning, with only Simi Singh and Lorcan Tucker featuring in all of Leinster Lightnings Twenty20 fixtures.

George Henry Dockrell is an Irish cricketer. Dockrell is right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler who plays international cricket for Ireland after learning his cricket at Leinster Cricket Club, Dublin. He was a member of the class of 2010 in Gonzaga College, Dublin. In December 2018, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland for the 2019 season. In January 2020, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract from Cricket Ireland, the first year in which all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis.
Peter Karl David Chase is an Irish cricketer who played for Durham County Cricket Club. He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler who also bats right handed. In December 2018, he was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland for the 2019 season. In June 2022, Chase retired from international cricket.
Lorcan John Tucker is an Irish cricketer and wicket-keeper batter.
The 2017 Inter-Provincial Championship was the fifth edition of the Inter-Provincial Championship, a first-class cricket competition played in Ireland. It was held from 30 May to 7 September 2017. It was the first edition of the competition to be played with first-class status, following the outcome of a meeting by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in October 2016. Leinster Lightning won the tournament, their fifth-consecutive, and completed a domestic clean-sweep in the process.

The 2021 Inter-Provincial Cup was the ninth edition of the Inter-Provincial Cup, a List A cricket competition that took place in Ireland during 2021. It was the fifth edition of the competition to be played with List A status. The number of teams was increased from three to four, with Munster Reds playing in the tournament for the first time. On 25 March 2021, Cricket Ireland confirmed the fixtures for the tournament. On 9 April 2021, Cricket Ireland announced the revised fixtures for the tournament.
The Ireland Wolves cricket team toured Bangladesh in February and March 2021 to play an unofficial Test match, five unofficial One Day International matches and one unofficial Twenty20 International match against a Bangladesh Emerging team. The tour was confirmed a day after Ireland's tour of Zimbabwe was cancelled. The original tour schedule included two Twenty20 matches, but one was dropped from the itinerary on 13 March 2021.
The Ireland cricket team toured the West Indies in January 2022 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches and a one-off Twenty20 International (T20I) match. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. On 6 December 2021, the full schedule for the tour was confirmed by both cricket boards. Ireland last toured the West Indies in January 2020. Prior to the series, the Irish team were scheduled to play five white ball matches against the United States in Florida. However, the ODI matches were cancelled due to COVID-19 cases within the squads.
The Afghanistan cricket team toured Ireland in August 2022 to play five Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. Initially, the tour included a one-off Test match, but this was dropped from the fixtures when Cricket Ireland announced the schedule in March 2022. Cricket Ireland confirmed the dates and venues for the tour later the same month. The matches were used by both teams as preparation for the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
