Lollywood refers to the Pakistani Urdu and Punjabi-language film industry based in Lahore. Since the partition of India in 1947, Lahore has been the center of Pakistani cinema, with films being produced both in Urdu and Punjabi. Prior to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, the industry interacted heavily with Dhaka, with Bengali actress Shabnam remembered as a very prominent figure in the industry. The word "Lollywood" is a portmanteau of "Lahore" and "Hollywood", coined in 1989 by Glamour magazine gossip columnist Saleem Nasir, and is usually used comparatively with respect to other industries in South Asian cinema, such as Tollywood and Bollywood.
Anjuman Shaheen, is a Pakistani film actress. She was one of the most successful Punjabi film heroines of Pakistan during the 1980s and early 1990s. She was born in Bahawalpur. Anjuman's parents were from Ahmadpur East, settled in Multan where Anjuman was brought up. She later moved to Lahore.

Surinder Kaur was an Indian singer and songwriter. While she mainly sang Punjabi folk songs, where she is credited for pioneering and popularising the genre, Kaur also recorded songs as a playback singer for Hindi films between 1948 and 1952. For her contributions to punjabi music, she earned the sobriquet Nightingale of Punjab, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1984, and the Padma Shri in 2006.

Besides his Bollywood career as a cinematographer, he is also known as a pioneering director in Punjabi cinema. He directed his first Hindi film, Pehla Pehla Pyar in 1994 and first Punjabi film Jee Ayan Nu in 2003. He received "Lifetime Achievement Award" in PTC Punjabi Film Awards 2019.

After the partition of India in 1947, only 3 of the 5 rivers, the Sutlej, Ravi and Beas rivers flows in Indian Punjab, while other two rivers became part of Punjab, Pakistan.
