The University of Kelaniya is a public university in Sri Lanka. Just outside the municipal limits of Colombo, in the city of Kelaniya, the university has two major institutions and seven faculties.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo</span>

Established in 1870 as the Colombo Medical School, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo, is the second oldest medical school in South Asia. It is considered to be the top most medical faculty in the country which requires the highest entry qualification in GCE Advanced Level examination.

Deshamanya is the second-highest national honour of Sri Lanka awarded by the Government of Sri Lanka as a civil honour. It is awarded for "highly meritorious service", and is conventionally used as a title or prefix to the recipient's name.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">M. J. Perera</span>

Mapatunage James "M. J." Perera was a Sri Lankan civil servant with nine members in his family in Udumulla, Padukka. He created broadcasting history by being the first Ceylonese Director General of Radio Ceylon, the oldest radio station in South Asia, taking over the helm from John Lampson of the BBC.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nissanka Wijeyeratne</span> Sri Lankan diplomat

Deshamanya Nissanka Parakrama Wijeyeratne, known as Nissanka Wijeyeratne, was a Sri Lankan politician, civil servant, diplomat and English language poet. He was also the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy from 1975 to 1985. At the time of death he was serving as the chairman of The Law and Society Trust in Sri Lanka.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vernon Mendis</span> Sri Lankan diplomat

Deshamanya Vernon Loraine Benjamin Mendis was a prominent Sri Lankan diplomat, who served as the United Nations' Special Envoy to the Middle East. He is referred to as the Sri Lanka's Father of Diplomacy due to his role in formation of the country's diplomatic service and has served as Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Canada; Ambassador to France, Cuba and Secretary General of the Non Aligned Movement.

Deshamanya Prof. Jayaratna Banda Disanayake is an emeritus professor and one of the leading authorities of the Sinhala language. He was former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand.

The University of Colombo currently has seven faculties with 41 academic departments and two interdependent schools with five academic departments. All faculties and schools carries out courses of study and research in both graduate and undergraduate studies. In addition, the university has several institutions that specialize in different areas of research.

Deshamanya Vidya Jyothi J.B. Peiris, FRCP is Sri Lankan neurologist. He was the founder of the Institute of Neurology, Chairman of the Sri Jayewardenapura Hospital and has been an executive Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Surendra Ramachandran</span>

Deshamanya Surendra Ramachandran, FRCP was a Sri Lankan Physician and Nephrologist. He was the founder of Sri Lankas First Dialysis Unit.

Deshamanya Professor A. H. Sheriffdeen is a Sri Lankan surgeon, academic and voluntary worker.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jayantha Kelegama</span>

Deshamanya Jayantha Kelegama (1928–2005) was a Sri Lankan economist and civil servant. He belongs to the first generation of economists in the post-independent Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Health is the central government ministry of Sri Lanka responsible for health. The ministry is responsible for formulating and implementing national policy on health, nutrition, indigenous medicine and other subjects which come under its purview.

Mohamed Cassim Mohamed Kaleel was a Ceylonese physician, social worker and politician.
