A bachelor, a teetotaller, a vegetarian, he lives in the simplest style, even as Ambassador. A thin, handsome young man with an. appealing smile, he walks with a limp due to a tubercular bone infection, and is not physically strong. After study at Rangoon University he was sent to the Russia just before the war, with the help and influence of Dr. Ba Maw. as a State scholar, and he spent the war years there Almost inevitably he made Communist contacts in the Russia but these did not find him entirely satisfactory. He became friendly, through Mr. Furnivall. with a number of Left-wing intellectuals, such as Dorothy Woodman and Tom Driberg, and after the war canvassed with them energetically on behalf of the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League, whose unofficial representative in London he was. The Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League (AFPFL) was the dominant political alliance in Burma from 1945 to 1958. It consisted of political parties and mass and class organizations.
Thakin Than Tun was a Burmese politician and leader of the Communist Party of Burma (CPB) from 1945 until his assassination in 1968. He was uncle of the former State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi.
Basic Education High School No. 2 Dagon is a public high school located a few miles north of downtown Yangon, Myanmar. The former nationalist high school founded for the children of the common folk, now educates mostly the children of well-to-do Burmese families from Dagon and vicinity. It was one of the first "nationalist schools" opened after the First National Strike against the British rule in Burma.
The "Practising School, Yangon Institute of Education"(Burmese: ပညာရေးတက္ကသိုလ် လေ့ကျင့်ရေးကျောင်း), later, "Practising High School, Yangon University of Education"(Burmese: ရန်ကုန်ပညာရေးတက္ကသိုလ် လေ့ကျင့်ရေးအထက်တန်းကျောင်း) was the name of a high school in Yangon, Myanmar, which is currently called Basic Education Department Practising High School, Kamayut Township. Although it is a high school in the technical sense, TTC's student body comprises students from Grade Kg to Grade Eleven or Matriculation, the highest standard in the Myanmar education system. The origin of the name of the school comes from the fact that TTC is part of the Institute of Education, whose trainee teachers are attached to the school as part of their course.
