It is widely known for having one of the most historical and successful football teams in Peru; they have won a total of 21 official league titles of the Peruvian Primera División and are currently the oldest team playing in that competition, since the club was founded in 1901. Club Universitario de Deportes, popularly known as Universitario or simply as La "U", is a Peruvian football club based in Lima. The club was founded in 1924 under the name Federación Universitaria by students of the National University of San Marcos but was forced to rename in 1931. Since 1928, the club competes in the top tier of Peruvian football, the Torneo Descentralizado. In 2000, they opened the 80,000-capacity stadium Estadio Monumental, currently the largest stadium in Peru and second-largest in South America, retiring their smaller Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernández. Universitario and Alianza Lima participate in the Peruvian Clásico, which has its roots in the club's first participation in the Primera División in 1928. It also has rivalries with Sporting Cristal, Deportivo Municipal, and Sport Boys.

Club Deportivo Universidad Católica is a professional football club based in Santiago, Chile. Founded in 1937 they play in the Primera División, the top flight of Chilean football. The team has played its home games at Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo since 1988.

Foot Ball Club Melgar, known simply as FBC Melgar or Melgar, is a Peruvian football club based in Arequipa, Peru. It is one of Peru's oldest football teams, founded in 1915 by a group of football enthusiasts from Arequipa. The club currently plays in the Peruvian Primera División.

The Peruvian Clásico or the Classic of the Classics of Peruvian Football is the name given to Peru's biggest football derby between Alianza Lima and Universitario. The rivalry between these two clubs started in their first game on 23 September 1928 when the two first faced off in a violent game. Both clubs come from the capital city, Lima.

The Liga de Ascenso Femenina is currently the second level league competition for women's football in Peru that officially started in 2009. Until 2019 it was the top tournament of Peruvian Primera División Femenina whose winner qualified for the Copa Libertadores de Fútbol Femenino, the South American Champions League. The competition is organised by the Peruvian Football Federation.

Cristian Andres Palomeque Valoyes is a Colombian footballer who plays for Honduran Liga Nacional de Ascenso club Juticalpa F.C.

The term Basque derbies refers to the various local derbies between the football teams based in the Basque Country, Spain. This can also include the province of Navarre outside of the autonomous community. It specifically refers to individual matches between the teams, but can also be used to describe the general ongoing rivalry between the clubs and fans.

Jeison Medina Escobar is a Colombian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ecuadorian Serie A club Aucas.

The División de Honor is the top Peruvian futsal league organized by the Peruvian Football Federation.

The 2020 Liga 1 de Fútbol Profesional was the 104th season of the Peruvian Primera División, the highest division of Peruvian football. A total of 20 teams competed in the season with Binacional coming in as defending champions. The season started on 31 January 2020 and concluded on 20 December 2020 with the second leg of the finals. Sporting Cristal won its 20th domestic championship by beating Universitario in the finals by a 3–2 aggregate score.

The 2021 Liga 1 de Fútbol Profesional was the 105th season of the Peruvian Primera División, the highest division of Peruvian football. A total of 18 teams competed in the season, with Sporting Cristal coming in as defending champions.

The Atlético Nacional–Millonarios rivalry is a major rivalry involving Millonarios from Bogotá and Atlético Nacional from Medellín, the two most successful and two of the most popular clubs in Colombian football. Dubbed by Colombian media as well as CONMEBOL as one of the most important clásicos or a "superclásico" of Colombian football, this rivalry is also considered one of the greatest classic matches in South America by the international press. The rivalry is fueled by a social, cultural and regional character, since it evokes the historical rivalry between two of the most developed regions of Colombia: the Antioquia Department and the nation's capital Bogotá.

The 2022 Copa Ecuador was the second edition of the Copa Ecuador, Ecuador's domestic football cup. It began on 6 May 2022 and ended with the single-legged final on 8 November 2022.

The 2023 Liga 1 de Fútbol Profesional was the 107th season of the Peruvian Primera División, the highest division of Peruvian football. A total of 19 teams competed in the season, which began on 3 February and ended on 8 November 2023. The season was originally scheduled to begin on 21 January, but the first two matchdays were postponed due to the 2022–2023 Peruvian protests. The fixtures for the season were announced on 30 December 2022.
