Z is a 1969 political thriller film directed by Costa-Gavras, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jorge Semprún, adapted from the 1967 novel by Vassilis Vassilikos. The film presents a thinly fictionalized account of the events surrounding the assassination of democratic Greek politician Grigoris Lambrakis in 1963. With its dark view of Greek politics and its downbeat ending, the film captures the director's outrage about the junta that then ruled Greece. The title refers to a popular Greek protest slogan meaning "he lives," in reference to Lambrakis.
Missing is a 1982 American biographical thriller drama film directed by Costa-Gavras from a screenplay written by Gavras and Donald E. Stewart, adapted from the book The Execution of Charles Horman: An American Sacrifice (1978) by Thomas Hauser, based on the disappearance of American journalist Charles Horman, in the aftermath of the United States-backed Chilean coup of 1973, which deposed the democratically elected socialist President Salvador Allende.

No One Writes to the Colonel is a 1999 Spanish-language film directed by Arturo Ripstein. It was an international co-production between France, Spain and Mexico. Rodrigo Sorogoyen del Amo is a Spanish film director and screenwriter. After co-helming the sketch comedy film 8 Dates with Peris Romano in 2008, Sorogoyen has directed the features Stockholm (2013), May God Save Us (2016), The Realm (2018), Mother (2019), and The Beasts (2022). He has also co-created the miniseries Riot Police (2020) and The New Years (2024). He often works in tandem with screenwriter Isabel Peña.

The Beasts is a 2022 thriller film directed and produced by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, who wrote the screenplay with Isabel Peña. A co-production between Spain and France, it features Spanish, French, and Galician dialogue. It stars Denis Ménochet, Marina Foïs, Luis Zahera, Diego Anido, and Marie Colomb.
Domingo and the Mist is a 2022 Costa Rican drama film directed by Ariel Escalante Meza. It had its international premiere on May 25, 2022 at the 75th Cannes Film Festival in competition for the Un Certain Regard, thus becoming the only Costa Rican and Central American film to compete in this section. It was selected as the Costa Rican entry for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
