The economy of Vietnam is a developing mixed socialist-oriented market economy. It is the 35th-largest economy in the world by nominal gross domestic product (GDP) and the 26th-largest economy in the world by purchasing power parity (PPP). It is a lower-middle income country with a low cost of living. Vietnam is a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the World Trade Organization.
The Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is the executive branch and body of the state administration of Vietnam. The members of the Government are appointed by the President of Vietnam on the advice of the Prime Minister of Vietnam and approved by the National Assembly. The Government is led by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), which is headed by the CPV general secretary, often seen as the highest political post in Vietnam.
The dong has been the currency of Vietnam since 3 May 1978. It is issued by the State Bank of Vietnam. The dong was also the currency of the predecessor states of North Vietnam and South Vietnam, having replaced the previously used French Indochinese piastre.

Đổi Mới is the name given to the economic reforms initiated in Vietnam in 1986 with the goal of creating a "socialist-oriented market economy". The term đổi mới itself is a general term with wide use in the Vietnamese language meaning "innovate" or "renovate". However, the Đổi Mới Policy refers specifically to these reforms that sought to transition Vietnam from a command economy to a socialist-oriented market economy.
UnionPay, also known as China UnionPay or by its abbreviation, CUP or UPI internationally, is a Chinese state-owned financial services corporation headquartered in Shanghai, China. It provides bank card services and a major card scheme in mainland China. Founded on 26 March 2002, China UnionPay is an association for China's banking card industry, operating under the approval of the People's Bank of China. It is also an electronic funds transfer at point of sale (EFTPOS) network, and the only interbank network in China that links all the automatic teller machine (ATMs) of all banks throughout the country. UnionPay cards can be used in 181 countries and regions around the world.
Shinhan Bank Co., Ltd. is a bank headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. Historically it was the first bank in Korea, established under the name Hanseong Bank in 1897. The bank was reestablished in 1982. It is part of the Shinhan Financial Group, along with Jeju Bank. Chohung Bank merged with Shinhan Bank on April 1, 2006.
Asia Commercial Bank, often abbreviated to ACB, is the largest private bank in Vietnam by assets, headquartered at 442 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Ward 5, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City. It was registered on 19 May 1993 and began operations in June 1993. The bank trades at the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange under the symbol ACB, where it listed on December 9, 2020 after previously trading at the Hanoi Stock Exchange.
The State Bank of Vietnam is the central bank of Vietnam. Organized a ministry-level body under the Government of Vietnam, it is the sole issuer of the national currency, the Vietnamese đồng. As of 2024 it holds over USD 100 million in foreign exchange reserves.
CIMB Group Holdings Berhad is a Malaysian universal bank headquartered in Kuala Lumpur and operating in high growth economies in ASEAN. CIMB Group is an indigenous ASEAN investment bank. CIMB has a wide retail branch network with 1,080 branches across the region.
The Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, commonly known as BIDV, is a Vietnamese state-owned bank in Vietnam. It is the country's biggest bank by assets as of June 2021. According to the United Nations Development Programme report on the 100 largest enterprises in Vietnam, BIDV came in at the 4th position after Agribank, VNPT, and EVN.
Banking in Vietnam started in 1976 with the State Bank Vietnam, which became the central bank of the country. Vietnam's banks suffer from low public confidence, regulatory and managerial weakness, high levels of non-performing loans (NPL), non-compliance with the Basel capital standards, and the absence of international auditing. The Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade, trading as Vietinbank, is a state-owned Vietnamese bank. As of 2023, it is Vietnam's second-largest bank, with VND 1,800 trillion of assets under management.

Public Bank Vietnam Limited (PBVN) is a bank based in Hanoi, Vietnam, offering financial services in Vietnam. It was transformed from VID Public Bank (VIDPB) - a joint venture between Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) of Vietnam and Public Bank Berhad (PBB) of Malaysia with equal stake established in May 1992. The transformation completed on March 24, 2016, and the bank officially commenced operations on April 1, 2016.

Vietnam–European Union relations are the multilateral relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the European Union (EU). Diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the European Economic Community (EEC) were established in 1990. The legal basis of the bilateral relations between Vietnam and the EU was the Framework Cooperation Agreement, signed after the first meeting conducted by the Joint Commission in 1996. A Free Trade Agreement and an Investment Protection Agreement between both parts were signed on 30 June 2019. The EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) was greenlighted by the European Parliament on 12 February 2020. Both the EVFTA and the Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) were ratified by the Vietnamese National Assembly on 8 June 2020.
