The provinces of Greece were sub-divisions of some the country's prefectures. From 1887, the provinces were abolished as actual administrative units, but were retained for some state services, especially financial and educational services, as well as for electoral purposes. Before the Second World War, there were 139 provinces, and after the war, with the addition of the Dodecanese Islands, their number grew to 147. According to the Article 7 of the Code of Prefectural Self-Government, the provinces constituted a "particular administrative district" within the wider "administrative district" of the prefectures. The provinces were finally abolished after the 2006 local elections, in line with Law 2539/1997, as part of the wide-ranging administrative reform known as the "Kapodistrias Project", and replaced by enlarged municipalities (demoi).

Greek vehicle registration plates are composed of three letters and four digits per plate printed in black on a white background. The letters represent the district (prefecture) that issues the plates while the numbers range from 1000 to 9999. As of 2004 a blue strip was added on the left showing the country code of Greece (GR) in white text and the Flag of Europe in yellow. Similar plates but of square size with numbers ranging from 1 to 999 are issued for motorcycles which exceed 50 cc in engine size.

The 2006–07 Greek Football Cup was the 65th edition of the Greek Football Cup, competition. That season's edition was the first to be entitled "Hellas On Line Greek Cup". The competition started on 26 August 2006 and concluded on 5 May 2007 with the Final, held at the Panthessaliko Stadium. AEL won the trophy with a 2–1 victory over Panathinaikos.

The Greek A2 Basket League, is a professional basketball league in Greece. It is the 2nd-tier level of pro competition, among clubs in the country. It is organized by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). The league is also known as the Greek A2 Basket Elite League for sponsorship reasons.

Rail transport in Greece has a history which began in 1869, with the completion of the then Athens & Piraeus Railway. From the 1880s to the 1920s, the majority of the network was built, reaching its heyday in 1940. From the 1950s onward, the railway system entered a period of decline, culminating in the service cuts of 2011. Ever since the 1990s, the network has been steadily modernized, but still remains smaller than its peak length. The 2004–05 Greek Football Cup was the 63rd edition of the Greek Football Cup. The competition started on 10 September 2004 and concluded on 21 May 2005 with the Greek Cup Final, held at the Pampeloponnisiako Stadium. Olympiacos earned the trophy with a 3–0 victory over Aris.

The 2008–09 HEBA Greek All Star Game marked the 17th HEBA Greek All Star Game of the HEBA A1 Division. The game was held on March 15, 2009, at Xanthi Arena in Xanthi, Greece. The Greek All Stars beat The Rest of the World All Stars by a score of 127-93. Ioannis Bourousis was named the MVP of the game.

The 1986 UEFA European Under-16 Championship was the fourth edition of UEFA's European Under-16 Football Championship. Greece hosted the championship, during 1–10 May 1986. 16 teams entered the competition, and the Spain won its first title.

The railway from Piraeus to Platy is an electrified double-track railway line that connects Athens to northern Greece and the rest of Europe. It constitutes the longest section of the mostly completed higher-speed rail line known as P.A.Th.E./P., which includes Greece's most important rail connection, that between Athens and Thessaloniki. Its northern end is the station of Platy, on the Thessaloniki–Bitola railway. In the south, it connects to the Athens Airport–Patras railway at the Acharnes Railway Center. The line passes through Thebes, Katerini and Larissa, and offers connections to several other cities through branch lines.

The 2014–15 Greek Football Cup was the 73rd edition of the Greek Football Cup. A total of 46 clubs, just as the last edition, were accepted to enter. The competition commenced on 28 August 2014 with the preliminary round and concluded on 23 May 2015 with the final, at the Olympic Stadium. The winner of the competition was Olympiacos for 27th time.

The 2004–05 Greek Basket League season was the 65th season of the Greek Basket League, the highest tier professional basketball league in Greece. It was also the 13th season of Greek Basket League that was regulated by HEBA (ESAKE). The winner of the league was Panathinaikos, which beat AEK Athens in the league's playoff's finals series. The clubs MENT and Ionikos Nea Filadelfeia were relegated to the Greek A2 League. The top scorer of the league was Nikos Oikonomou, a player of Panionios.

The 2015–16 Greek Football Cup was the 74th edition of the Greek Football Cup. A total of 34 clubs were accepted to enter. The competition commenced on 9 September 2015 with the preliminary round and was planned to conclude on 23 April 2016 with the final, at the Olympic Stadium.

The 2018–19 Greek Football Cup was the 77th season of the Greek Football Cup. A total of 73 clubs were accepted to enter, 16 from the Super League, 16 from the Football League and the 41 previous season local FCA Cup winners. PAOK won the competition for third consecutive year beating AEK Athens 1–0 in the final held at the Olympic Stadium.
