According to journalist Ana Bejarano, Shakira has been the soundtrack of an entire generation, focusing its impact on Colombian society at the time. [1] According to Billboard, Shakira's songs can range from heartbreaking ballads to "pop anthems". [2]
Songs like "Whenever Wherever", "Waka Waka" and "Hips Don't Lie" which were Shakira's biggest hits worldwide are the most covered while the most covered song in Spanish is "Ojos Así" by various artists from countries outside the continent and being used as a soundtrack for Middle Eastern movies. [3] Artists like Li Yuchun were discovered thanks to a cover of Shakira performed on talent shows in the early 2000s.

Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira has released 12 studio albums, one reissue, five live albums, two compilation albums, 69 singles and 62 music videos. With 95 million certified records worldwide, she is the highest-selling Colombian artist and the best-selling female Latin artist of all time. She is the only South American artist to peak at number one on the Australian Singles Chart, the UK Singles Chart, and the US Billboard Hot 100. Her singles "Hips Don't Lie" and "Waka Waka ", have achieved sales in excess of ten million units, becoming some of the best-selling singles worldwide.
"The Cup of Life" is a song recorded by Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin for his fourth studio album, Vuelve (1998). Martin created the song after FIFA requested of him an anthem. The song was written by Luis Gómez Escolar, Desmond Child, and Draco Rosa, while the production was handled by the latter two. It was released by Columbia Records on March 9, 1998, as the second single from the album, and became the official song of the 1998 FIFA World Cup held in France. A primarily Spanish language samba-rooted Latin pop song, it carries a football-heavy message with fully positive lyrics.
"Las de la Intuición" is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira from her sixth studio album Fijación Oral Vol. 1 (2005). It was written and produced by the singer as well as co-composed by Luis Fernando Ochoa, with additional production by Lester Mendez. It was sent to Spanish radio stations on 24 February 2007, as the fourth and final single from the album. "Las de la Intuición" is a synth-pop and Euro house track whose lyrics talk about female intuition. It received mostly positive reviews from music critics, who commended its lyrical content and production. The track was a commercial success in Spain, topping the Airplay chart, and entering the top ten on the Downloads and Original Tones charts, all published by the Productores de Música de España (PROMUSICAE). It received a five-times Platinum certification by the organization for 100,000 ringtones sold, and became the song of the summer of the country in 2007. Elsewhere, it entered the charts in Russia and Venezuela.
“Inevitable” is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira. It was released on September 29, 1998 by Sony Music, and is included as the fifth track in her album, Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998). The sentimental ballad is about a woman’s honesty to her former lover and how she feels her life to be subsequently monotonous. In the accompanying music video, Shakira is depicted as singing in an arena full of admirers screaming for her. Along with Luis Fernando Ochoa, Shakira wrote the lyrics and managed the production.
"Día Especial" is a Latin pop ballad performed by Colombian singer Shakira from her album Fijación Oral Vol. 1. The song is about how a day is made special with forgiveness. "Día Especial" is not an official single from Fijación Oral Vol. 1, but was popular around the time of the album's release, peaking at number 26 on the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay chart. Gustavo Cerati was the lyricist for the track with Shakira and Luis Fernando Ochoa as co-writers for the music. Shakira performed the song together with Gustavo Cerati at the Live Earth concert in Germany on 7 July 2007, an event to promote awareness of the global warming, pollution, and environmental issues. The English version of the song is titled "The Day and the Time" with brand new lyrics written by Shakira and Pedro Aznar and is featured on the album Oral Fixation Vol. 2.
"Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" is a song by Colombian singer Shakira, featuring the South African band Freshlyground. Co-written by Shakira and John Hill, it was released on 7 May 2010 by Epic Records as the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was held in South Africa. Released in English and Spanish (with the title "Waka Waka (Esto es África)"), the song samples the original Cameroonian makossa song "Zamina mina (Zangaléwa)" by Golden Sounds and the lyrics encourage the players to aim for goals like soldiers on a battlefield.
The 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards was held on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and was hosted by Lucero and Cristián de la Fuente. The eligibility period for recordings to be nominated is July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. The show will be aired on Univision.
The Billboard Latin Digital Songs, or Latin Digital Song Sales, is a record chart that ranks the best-selling Spanish-language digital songs in the United States, as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and published weekly by Billboard. It was introduced in the issue dated January 23, 2010 and merges all versions of a song sold from digital music distributors. Its data was incorporated in the Hot Latin Songs chart on October 22, 2012.
"La Bicicleta" is a song by Colombian singer and songwriters Carlos Vives and Shakira, from the former's fifteenth studio album Vives (2017) and is also included as an album track on Shakira's eleventh studio album El Dorado (2017). The song was written by both singers, and produced by Andrés Castro and it marks Shakira's first collaboration with a fellow Colombian artist. "La Bicicleta" was intended to be representative of both singers' homelands musical styles in Colombia. It is a song with a mixture of various musical genres – vallenato, pop and reggaeton – and it features indigenous Colombian wind instruments and accordions. Lyrically, it is a nostalgic song, describing the duo's excursion on bikes to places of their childhood. Music critics reviewed the song positively, praising it for its catchiness and inclusion of various Colombian music elements. The song was certified Platinum+Gold in Mexico.
