This is a list of current general managers in the National Hockey League. In the National Hockey League, the general manager of a team typically controls player transactions and bears the primary responsibility on behalf of the hockey club during contract discussions with players.

Contents

The general manager is also normally the person who hires, fires, and supervises the head and assistant coaches for both the NHL team and often the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, amateur and professional scouts, and all other hockey operations staff.

    Stephen Gregory Yzerman is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player currently serving as executive vice president and general manager of the Detroit Red Wings, with whom he spent all 22 seasons of his NHL playing career. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he is a Detroit sports icon and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. After his retirement as a player, he served in the front office of the Red Wings, and then as general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, while also being executive director for Team Canada in two Olympics.

    Daniel Jean-Claude Brière is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and current executive. He is the general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers. He was drafted in the first round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes, and also played for the Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL).

    Christopher Ellis Drury is an American professional ice hockey executive and former player. He has served as the president and general manager for the New York Rangers since May 5, 2021. He previously served as the general manager of the Rangers American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

    Michael James Grier is an American former professional ice hockey winger and current general manager of the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose Sharks. Primarily a checking forward, he played 1,060 games over 14 seasons. He was the first African-American NHL player to train exclusively in the United States, and the league's first black general manager.

    Patrick Martin Verbeek is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and current general manager of the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Verbeek played for five teams over a 20-year playing career, earning a Stanley Cup ring with the Dallas Stars in 1999. His nickname, the "Little Ball of Hate", was given to him in 1995 by Glenn Healy after fellow New York Rangers teammate Ray Ferraro was tagged as the "Big Ball of Hate".

    Steve Staios is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who currently serves as president of hockey operations and general manager for the Ottawa Senators. Staios played right defence in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, Atlanta Thrashers, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and New York Islanders during his career.

    Kenneth Mark Holland is a Canadian ice hockey executive and former goaltender. Holland has most notably served as the executive vice president and general manager of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League from 1997 to 2019, winning four Stanley Cup championships. He also served as president of hockey operations and general manager of the Edmonton Oilers from 2019 to 2024. In 2009, Holland was listed as second-best overall on Sports Illustrated's list of the top sports executives of the 2000s. As a goaltender, Holland was drafted in the 12th round, 188th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1975 NHL Entry Draft. He played four NHL games with the Hartford Whalers and the Red Wings between 1980 and 1984.

    David James Poulin is a Canadian professional ice hockey executive and former player. A centre, Poulin played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals. In his post-playing career, Poulin has coached college hockey, been an Assistant General Manger with the Toronto Maple Leafs and has been an analyst on NHL television broadcasts. Currently he is Senior Vice-President, Hockey Operations for the Ottawa Senators of the NHL.

    Claude Loiselle is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1981 to 1994.

    Paul John Fenton Jr. is an American former ice hockey forward and current executive for the Florida Panthers. He has previously served as the general manager for the Minnesota Wild. Before joining the Wild, he had worked as assistant general manager with the Nashville Predators.

    Kevin A. Cheveldayoff, nicknamed "Chevy", is a Canadian ice hockey executive and former player who is currently the executive vice president and general manager of the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League.

    The 2004–05 Detroit Red Wings season would have been their 79th National Hockey League season; however, it was cancelled as the 2004–05 NHL lockout could not be resolved in time to save the season.

    Kyle Benjamin Dubas is a Canadian ice hockey executive who is the current president of hockey operations and general manager for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. He previously served as the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

    Pierre Dorion Jr. is a Canadian former professional ice hockey executive. He served as a scout for the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers before serving as the general manager of the Ottawa Senators (NHL) from 2016 to 2023.

    Nathan Staios is an American professional ice hockey defenseman under contract to the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
