Much of the country's tourism is centred in the following regions: Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Vancouver/Whistler, Niagara Falls, Vancouver Island, Canadian Rockies, British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, Churchill, Manitoba and the national capital region Ottawa. The large cities are known for their culture, diversity, as well as the many national parks and historic sites.

The hotels were designed to serve the passengers of the country's then expanding rail network and they celebrated rail travel in style.

The 2010 Winter Olympics Torch Relay was a 106-day run, from October 30, 2009 until February 12, 2010, prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics. Plans for the relay were originally announced November 21, 2008 by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). Communities were initially informed in June 2008, but the locations were not announced for "security reasons". Exact routes were later announced several weeks before the start of the torch relay.

The hotel opened in 1998 with over 20 room floors, as well as three additional levels for Spa, Lobby, and Restaurant/Mezzanine. The addition of a second tower section in the year 2002 increased the number of rooms by 185 across 14 guest floors in a 17-story structure.
