The 1:50,000 series

Between the early 1950s and the late 1970s the UK Directorate of Overseas Surveys published several editions of a series of maps of Jamaica at the scale of 1:50,000. Jamaica Defence Force combined military forces of Jamaica

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is the combined military of Jamaica, consisting of an infantry Regiment and Reserve Corps, an Air Wing, a Coast Guard fleet and a supporting Engineering Unit. The JDF is based upon the British military model, with similar organisation, training, weapons and traditions. Once chosen, officer candidates are sent to one of several British or Canadian basic officer courses depending upon the arm of service. Enlisted soldiers are given basic training at JDF Training Depot Newcastle. As on the British model, NCOs are given several levels of professional training as they rise up the ranks. Additional military schools are available for speciality training in Canada, China, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Bruce Golding Jamaican politician; Prime Minister of Jamaica

Orette Bruce Golding is a former Jamaican politician who served as eighth Prime Minister of Jamaica from 11 September 2007 to 23 October 2011. He is a member of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), which he led from 2005 to his resignation in 2011.

Sabina Park is a cricket ground and the home of the Kingston Cricket Club, and is the only Test cricket ground in Kingston, Jamaica.

Antonis Antoniadis Greek footballer

Antonis Antoniadis is a Greek footballer. He scored 187 goals in a career which spanned 22 years. He started his career at 1964 playing for Aspida Xanthi before moving to Panathinaikos on 31 July 1968. Antoniadis scored his first official goal for Panathinaikos on 27 October 1968 in a 1–0 victory over Apollon Athens. When he was playing in Xanthi, he was a goalkeeper because of his height. His nickname is The Tall.

Jamaica national rugby league team represents Jamaica in international rugby league football

The Jamaica national rugby league team represents Jamaica in international rugby league football tournaments. The team made their full international debut at the 2009 Atlantic Cup in Jacksonville, Florida, playing against the United States. Prior to this they had played matches against touring sides from England and Australia. The team plays in yellow jerseys with green shorts and green socks. It is largely made up of players from the Jamaican domestic competition and heritage players from the English leagues.

Jayna Hefford ice hockey player

Jayna Hefford is a women's ice hockey player who won multiple medals at the Winter Olympics and IIHF World Women's Championships as well as titles in the National Women's Hockey League and Canadian Women's Hockey League. She helped Canada win four-straight Olympic gold medals from 2002 to 2014 and famously scored the gold-medal winning goal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. At the club level across three leagues, she scored 439 goals in 418 competitive games including a CWHL record 44 goals in 2008-09.

Laurent Esso Cameroonian politician

Laurent Esso is a Cameroonian politician who has held a succession of key posts under President Paul Biya since 1988. He served in the government of Cameroon as Minister of Justice from 1996 to 2000, Minister of Public Health from 2000 to 2001, Minister of Defense from 2001 to 2004, and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2006. Subsequently, Esso was Secretary-General of the Presidency, with the rank of Minister of State, from September 2006 to December 2011. He has again served as Minister of Justice since December 2011.

Mavis Bank Town in St Andrew, Jamaica

Mavis Bank is a rural coffee farming community approximately 10 miles (16 km) north east of Kingston, Jamaica in east rural St. Andrew in the Blue Mountains, close to the border of Saint Thomas.

Marilyn Neufville Jamaican sprinter

Marilyn Fay Neufville is a retired sprint runner who was active between 1967 and 1971. Neufville broke the world record in the 400 m and won four gold medals and one bronze in various regional championships. Born in Jamaica, she emigrated at eight years old to Great Britain.

The road network in Jamaica consists of almost 21,000 kilometres of roads, of which over 15,000 kilometres is paved. The numbering scheme used covers freeways, primary roads, secondary roads, parochial roads and unclassified roads.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Jamaica oversees Social Security and Welfare, Education Affairs and Services, and Labour Relations Employment Services. The head offices of the labour and social security divisions are in Kingston.

Cross Roads is a primarily commercial neighbourhood of Kingston, Jamaica. It is centered on the intersection of five major roads: Slipe Road, Half Way Tree Road, Old Hope Road, Caledonia Avenue and Marescaux Road.
