This is a list of the 73 members of the European Parliament for Italy in the Ninth European Parliament. [1]

Contents

After Brexit, Italy gained three extra seats that were distributed from the British delegation of MEPs.

Following the 2022 general election in Italy, nine MEPs were elected to the Italian Parliament and were replaced on their party lists by; Denis Nesci, Matteo Gazzini, Elisabetta De Blasis, Paola Ghidoni, Maria Angela Danzì, Beatrice Covassi, Alessandra Mussolini, Lara Comi and Achille Variati.

It is a cross-party group of Members of the European Parliament counting over 150 supporters from five political groups and all EU countries. The LGBTI Intergroup remains the largest in the 2019 to 2024 legislature.

Forza Italia is a centre-right political party in Italy, whose ideology includes elements of liberal conservatism, Christian democracy, liberalism and populism. FI is a member of the European People's Party. Silvio Berlusconi was the party's leader and president until his death in 2023. The party has since been led by Antonio Tajani, who had been vice president and coordinatior and now functions as secretary. Other leading members include Elisabetta Casellati.

The 2019 European Parliament election was held between 23 and 26 May 2019, the ninth parliamentary election since the first direct elections in 1979. A total of 751 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) represent more than 512 million people from 28 member states. In February 2018, the European Parliament had voted to decrease the number of MEPs from 751 to 705 if the United Kingdom were to withdraw from the European Union on 29 March 2019. However, the United Kingdom participated alongside other EU member states after an extension of Article 50 to 31 October 2019; therefore, the allocation of seats between the member states and the total number of seats remained as it had been in 2014. The Ninth European Parliament had its first plenary session on 2 July 2019.

The X Legislature of the Regional Council of Veneto, the legislative assembly of Veneto, was inaugurated in June 2015, following the 2015 regional election, and ended in October 2020. Of the 51 members, 49 were elected in provincial constituencies by proportional representation using the largest remainder method with a Droop quota and open lists, while the remaining two were the elected President and the candidate for President who came second. The winning coalition won a bonus of seats in order to make sure the elected President had a majority in the Council.

Fabio Massimo Castaldo is an Italian politician who has served in the European Parliament since 2014. On 15 November 2017, he was elected Vice-President of the European Parliament; in doing so, he replaced Alexander Graf Lambsdorff and became the youngest vice-president in the history of the institution. As a member of the European Parliament (MEP), he sat on the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy parliamentary group from 1 July 2014 to 15 October 2014, and again from 20 October 2014 and 1 July 2019, and was a non-attached member (Non-Inscrits) from 16 October 2014 to 19 October 2014.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2024 European Parliament election</span> Election for the 10th European Parliament

The 2024 European Parliament election is scheduled to be held on 6 to 9 June 2024. This will be the tenth parliamentary election since the first direct elections in 1979, and the first European Parliament election after Brexit.

Matteo Gazzini is an Italian politician and real estate developer who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament for Lega Nord since 2022.
