Puth wrote, co-produced, and was featured on a song by Wiz Khalifa, "See You Again", included in the Furious 7 soundtrack. On May 1, 2015, Puth released an EP, Some Type of Love. The pre-order for Puth's debut studio album Nine Track Mind started on August 20, 2015, along with the second single "One Call Away". The album was officially released on January 29, 2016. Puth released his second studio album Voicenotes on May 11, 2018, supported by the singles "Attention", "How Long", "Done for Me", "Change", and "The Way I Am". His third album, Charlie, was released on October 7, 2022, which includes singles "Light Switch" and "Left and Right", with BTS member Jungkook.

In November 2016, she released a single named "How Far I'll Go" for Disney animated film Moana. In 2017, Cara collaborated with producer Zedd to create the single "Stay", which reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also collaborated with rapper Logic to feature in his single "1-800-273-8255", which reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The lead single from Cara's second studio album, The Pains of Growing, called "Growing Pains" was released on June 15, 2018, and charted at number 65 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Trust My Lonely" and "Out of Love" were released as the second and third singles from the album respectively. The Pains of Growing was released on November 30, 2018, followed by a third studio album, In the Meantime in September 2021.
