<span class="mw-page-title-main">Gjilan</span> City in Kosovo

Gjilan or Gnjilane is the sixth most populous city in Kosovo and it serves as both a municipality and the administrative center of the Gjilan District. The municipality has a population of 90,178 with approximately 54,239 inhabitants residing in the urban area. It is located in the east of Kosovo, in the region of Anamorava, and is well connected with the capital city of Kosovo, Pristina, as well as other surrounding cities such as Ferizaj, Kamenica, Preševo and Bujanovac.

Bajram Curri was an Albanian chieftain, politician and activist who struggled for the independence of Albania, later struggling for Kosovo's incorporation into it following the 1913 Treaty of London. He was posthumously given the title Hero of Albania.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kachaks</span>

Kachaks is a term used for the Albanian rebels active in the late 19th and early 20th century in northern Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia, and later as a term for the militias of Albanian revolutionary organizations against the Kingdom of Serbia (1910–18) Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918–24), called the "Kaçak movement".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Podujevo</span> City and municipality in Kosovo

Podujevo or Besianë is a city and municipality in Pristina District in Kosovo. According to the 2011 census, the city of Podujevo has 23,453 inhabitants, while the municipality has 88,499 inhabitants. Podujevo is the largest municipality of Kosovo since it covers 633 km2 (244 sq mi) and is located along a regional motorway and also has railroad passing through it, which links the area to surrounding regions. Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, is located some 23 km (14 mi) to the south.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">University of Pristina</span> Public university in Kosovo

The University of Pristina is a public university located in Pristina, Kosovo. It is the institution that emerged after the disestablishment of the University of Pristina (1969–1999) as a result of the Kosovo War. The inauguration of the university was a historical occurrence not only for the people of Kosovo, but for the whole Albanian nation. On 15 February, the solemn Parliament session took place, which is also proclaimed as The University of Pristina's Day. In the composition of the newly established University of Pristina were faculties with their headquarters in Pristina: the Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Law and Economics, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine. Now the University of Pristina has 17 faculties, of which 14 are academic faculties and 3 are faculties of applied sciences. Contained within the emblem is a translation of the name into Latin, Universitas Studiorum Prishtiniensis.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Haxhi Zeka</span> Albanian nationalist leader

Haxhi Zekë Byberi mostly known as Haxhi Zeka was an Albanian nationalist leader, a member of the League of Prizren, while in 1899 he was part of the establishment and leadership of the League of Peja, another organization seeking protection of Albanians territories from Balkan states. Zeka was assassinated by a Serbian agent in 1902.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Idriz Seferi</span> Albanian rebel leader

Idriz Seferi was an Albanian leader and guerrilla fighter (rebel). During his 56-year military career, he fought in 35 battles. A member of the League of Prizren and League of Peja, he was the right-hand man of Isa Boletini, with whom he organized the 1910 Uprising against the Ottoman Empire in the Kosovo Vilayet. After the suppression of the uprising, Seferi continued warfare, in the 1912 Uprising. In the First Balkan War, Boletini and Seferi rose up against Serbia, with whom they had previously been allies to during the 1910 and 1912 Uprisings, and continued to attack Serbian posts in the subsequent occupation and initial phase of World War I (1913–1915). In the second phase of the war (1916–1918), he led troops against Bulgarian forces.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kosovo Security Force</span> Military of Kosovo

The Kosovo Security Force (KSF) is the military of Kosovo. The KSF is tasked with defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo, military support for civilian authorities, and participation in international peacekeeping missions and operations. Since 2018, it is in the process of transforming into the Kosovo Armed Forces.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Desivojca</span> Village in Gjilan, Kosovo

Desivojca is a village in the municipality of Kamenica, in the east of Kosovo. It has 16.41 km2 (6.34 sq mi) of land, 89 houses with 755 inhabitants. It is about 50 km (31 mi) from Gjilan. The village has a primary school called "Kadri Zeka" and a mosque built in 1816. It is a center for surrounding villages.

Classical music in Kosovo refers to the art music cultivated in Kosovo. The roots of classical music in Kosovo are found in the 1940s and include the time period from the times when Kosovo was part of Yugoslavia to this day. It can be said that there is a tradition of classical music in Kosovo, however, compared to other Balkan countries and especially European countries this tradition is younger. Classical music in Kosovo reaches back about 70 years. Even though in a short period of time, this music has evolved, passing through generations of composers and artists. In his book Albanian: Zhvillimi i stileve në veprat e kompozitorëve shqiptarë të Kosovës, Engjëll Berisha comments:

"The diversity of styles in Albanian music [of Kosovo], its national patterns with sound idea-aesthetic foundations are a characteristic of the European musical reality, so many many works are of interest abroad, too, because during this relatively short period Albanian classical music in Kosovo has compensated for the delay in its development."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Education in Mitrovica</span>

Education in Mitrovica is provided by a number of public and private institutions. With more than 36 percent of the population in Mitrovica being under 19 years old Mitrovica has a large number of primary schools, secondary schools and higher education institutes. These schools are located throughout the municipality, which is compromised by the city of Mitrovica, its 26 southern villages, and the northern part of the city.

The 2016–17 Football Superleague of Kosovo season, also known as the Vala Superleague of Kosovo for sponsorship reasons is the 18th season of top-tier football in Kosovo. The season began on 19 August 2016 and concluded on 28 May 2017; the relegation play-offs will follow. Feronikeli are the defending champions.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo</span> Research institute, national public health institute of Kosovo

The National Institute of Public Health of Kosova (NIPHK) is the oldest and highest health, professional and scientific institution of Kosovo, which organizes, develops, supervises and implements public health policies in Kosovo. The NIPHK covers the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo through its branches - Public Health Institutes (IPH) organized in these Regional Centers: Peja, Prizren, Mitrovica, Gjilan, Gjakova, Ferizaj.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kosovo Taekwondo Federation</span>

The Kosovo Taekwondo Federation is the official governing body for the sport of taekwondo in Kosovo and was founded in 2001.

The 2022–23 Football Superleague of Kosovo season, also known as the ALBI MALL Superleague of Kosovo for sponsorship reasons with Albi Mall was the 24th season of top-tier football in Kosovo. The season began on 13 August 2022 and ended on 28 May 2023. A total of ten teams are competing in the league: eight teams from the 2021–22 season and two teams from the 2021–22 First Football League of Kosovo. Ballkani are the defending champions from the previous season.
