The Polytechnic University of Tirana (UPT) is a public university located in Tirana, the capital of Albania. It offers degrees in engineering and related fields.
Eqrem Çabej University is a university in the Albanian town of Gjirokastër, named after Eqrem Çabej. It is one of nine SIFE accredited universities in Albania. It was created as a University with the name of “Eqrem Çabej” with decision of the Albanian Government nr. 414, dated 12 November 1991, on the basis of the Higher Institute of Pedagogy that was already established in 1971. It is the most important teaching and scientific institute of Southern Albania.
The University of Pristina is a public university located in Pristina, Kosovo. It is the institution that emerged after the disestablishment of the University of Pristina (1969–1999) as a result of the Kosovo War. The inauguration of the university was a historical occurrence not only for the people of Kosovo, but for the whole Albanian nation. On 15 February, the solemn Parliament session took place, which is also proclaimed as The University of Pristina's Day. In the composition of the newly established University of Pristina were faculties with their headquarters in Pristina: the Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Law and Economics, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine. Now the University of Pristina has 17 faculties, of which 14 are academic faculties and 3 are faculties of applied sciences. Contained within the emblem is a translation of the name into Latin, Universitas Studiorum Prishtiniensis.
Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës, also Aleksandër Moisiu University or University of Durrës, is the newest public academic institution of the Republic of Albania. The University is located in the ancient city of Durrës. The university was founded on 20 December 2005 by the Albanian Government. It was inaugurated in 2006 and is using the American system of education, unlike the rest of the public universities in the country. More than 1,300 students started classes as of 2 October 2006. University of Durrës took its name from Austrian-Italian actor Aleksandër Moisiu, who was of Albanian descent. The rector is Kseanela Sotirofski.

Aleksandër Xhuvani University is an institution of higher education located in Elbasan, Albania. It is divided into five faculties: Natural Sciences, Humanities, Economics, Educational Sciences and Medical and Technical Sciences. The current rector of the university is Prof. Dr. Skënder Topi.
Iliria College is a private provider of higher education in Kosovo. The Iliria Kolleg Pristina began its activity in 2001 as a private institution which combines the Albanian educational tradition with contemporary concepts. The Iliria College is member of the Balkan Universities Network.
Kristal University was an Albanian for-profit privately-owned University. It was established in 2005 with decision no. 761 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and licensed by the Ministry of Education and Science. It was closed in 2014 by the Ministry of Education for failing to comply to legal requirements.
The Academy of Sciences of Albania, founded in 1972, is the most important scientific institution in Albania. In the 1980s, several research institutes began at the University of Tirana were transferred to the Academy's jurisdiction. The institution includes the most distinguished scientists, also called "academics", that are involved in research centers and other organisations inside and outside Albania. As of 2009, the Academy had 23 regular members, 10 associated members, one permanent member, and 26 honor members.
The Sports University of Tirana (UST) is a university in Albania that trains fitness teachers and sports specialists, sport and tourism managers, guides, and physical education teachers. It awards Masters and PhD programs.
The European University of Tirana is an accredited private university in Tirana, Albania. It was established in 2006 by four PhD students : Adri Nurellari, Blendi Kajsiu, Ermal Hasimja, and Henri Çili, in collaboration with business manager Laert Duraj and journalist Robert Rakipllari.
Higher education accreditation is a type of quality assurance process under which services and operations of post-secondary educational institutions or programs are evaluated to determine if applicable standards are met. If standards are met, accredited status is granted by the agency.
Epoka University (EU) is a private university founded in 2007 in Tirana, Albania. The university received accreditation by the Quality Assurance Agency of Higher Education in 2011. It offers Bachelor's, Master's of Science, Professional Master's and PhD degrees. There are six PhD programs that are administered solely by Epoka staff, in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Economics, Political Science and International Relations and Business Administration. The school offers a joint degree with Leeds Metropolitan University.
The Quality Assurance Agency of Higher Education (ASCAL) (Albanian: Agjencia e Sigurimit të Cilësisë në Arsimin e Lartë) is an independent public agency responsible for promoting and ensuring the quality of higher education in Albania. ASCAL conducts a thorough, objective and independent evaluation of all higher education institutions and the study programs they have to offer.
The American Higher School of Tirana, also incorrectly referred to as "American University of Tirana", (UAT), is a defunct Higher education institution (HEI) in Tirana, Albania. On 6 August 2014 its licence was permanently revoked by the Albanian Ministry of Education and Sports (MAS), through decision no. 539 of the Albanian Council of Ministers, for not fulfilling the minimum legal requirements of higher education. The Albanian state authorities often compared the closed HEIs to Ponzi schemes, which have caused "extraordinary financial damage" to Albanian students and their parents.
The University of Medicine, Tirana (UMT) is a public university of Health and Medical Sciences located in Tirana, Albania.
Education in Kosovo is carried out in public and private institutions. Starting from 1999, education in Kosovo was subject to reforms at all levels: from preschool education up to university level. These reforms aimed at adjusting the education in Kosovo according to European and global contemporary standards. As a first step of this new system is considered the establishment of the Department of Education and Science (DES), which is followed with the creation of legal and professional infrastructure, which should facilitate the fundamental reformation of the education, and the establishment of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) in March 2002. During this period the private education system began to develop.
Aldent University is an Albanian accredited higher institution specializing in the field of stomatology. The university was founded in 2003 by Adem Alushi.
