The University of Basel is the oldest institution of higher learning in Switzerland.

This list of universities in Switzerland lists all public and private higher education institutions accredited and coordinated according the Federal Act on Funding and Coordination of the Swiss Higher Education Sector (short: Federal Higher Education Act, HEdA). [1]

Contents

This includes all 12 publicly funded Swiss universities (10 cantonal universities and 2 federal institutes of technology) and a number of public and private Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences and other education institutions as higher education institutions. The Swiss University Conference and its accreditation body the CRUS-OAQ is responsible for their recognition; an accreditation also defines the right to call itself accordingly. [2] [1] [3]

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland is situated in Western Switzerland. It is formally accredited by the Swiss Accreditation Council. The university is divided into six faculties: Design and Fine Arts; Business, Management and Services; Engineering and Architecture; Music and Performing Arts; Health; and Social Work.

Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) is one of seven regional, public-funded universities of applied sciences founded in 1997 in its current form. Academia Raetica, based in Davos, is the association for the promotion of science, research and education in the Canton of Graubünden and its surroundings. Its members include thirty research institutes, universities and clinics. It was founded in 2006 with the purpose of promoting young scientists, networking its members with each other and representing their interests in politics and in public.

Swissuniversities is the umbrella organization of universities and colleges in Switzerland.
