Middle East Technical University is a public technical university located in Ankara, Turkey. The university focuses on research and education in engineering, natural sciences and social sciences, offering 41 undergraduate programs across five faculties and 105 master's and 70 doctoral programs through five graduate schools. The main campus of METU spans an area of 11,100 acres (4,500 ha), comprising, in addition to academic and auxiliary facilities, a forest area of 7,500 acres (3,000 ha), and the natural Lake Eymir. METU has more than 120,000 alumni worldwide. The official language of instruction at METU is English.

Robert College was the first American college to be founded outside the United States. The main campus of Boğaziçi University is located on the European side of the Bosphorus strait. Fatih University was a leading private (foundation) university located in the metropolitan Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul, Turkey. Founded in 1996, the university was closed by the Turkish government in July 2016 and is now a part of Istanbul University.

It is accredited by YÖK, the Higher Education Council of Turkeyl; and YÖDAK, the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and coordination Council of Northern Cyprus; but not yet by any international accrediting agency. Lale Ayşegül BÜYÜKGÖNENÇ is the Acting Rector.

In 2021, it was one of three foundation universities in Turkey accredited by the Higher Education Quality Board, alongside Koç University and Bilkent University.
