The Lotus Eletre is a battery electric full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by the British sports car manufacturer Lotus Cars. It was revealed on 29 March 2022 as the company's first production SUV and its first vehicle produced in China.
Conceived by Jean-Marc Gales, Lotus's CEO at the time, the Lotus SUV project originally surfaced in 2016. Prior to this project, Lotus had revealed the 2006 Lotus APX concept crossover SUV, the first SUV that the company had built. In 2020, it was revealed that the internal codename for the new SUV project was 'Lambda' and that the model will be revealed in 2022. [6] Later in 2021, teasers for the SUV were released and the 'Type 132' codename name for the model was revealed. [7] In February 2022, Lotus showed more teasers and revealed that the SUV would debut on 29 March 2022. [8] [9]
Ahead of its official debut, 3D patents published by the intellectual property office on 8 March revealed the Lotus Type 132, showing the SUV's coupe-like design. [10] Later that month, the final production name of Type 132 was revealed to be 'Eletre', consistent with the other mass-production Lotus model nameplates which all begin with the letter 'E'. [11] The name of the car is derived from the Hungarian word "életre" which means "(coming) to life". [12]
The Lotus Eletre was designed at the Lotus Tech Creative Centre in Warwickshire, England and is produced in Wuhan, China. [9]
The Eletre is based on the Lotus Premium Architecture for the company's future C-segment and E-segment electric models. After the Type 132, two more SUVs and a sports car are planned to be released. [13]
For model year 2024, The Lotus Eletre is available in three trim levels: base, S, and R. All models are equipped with a 112.0-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that supports charging speeds up to 350 kilowatts. [14] The base and S trims feature a dual-motor powertrain producing 603 horsepower and 524 pound-feet of torque, while the range-topping R trim boasts a tri-motor setup generating 905 horsepower and 726 pound-feet of torque. The Eletre R can reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. [3]
In a teaser video released by Lotus, a LiDAR sensor is shown rising from the roof of the Lotus Eletre. [15] Also shown through teasers are digital side mirrors and a floating infotainment system. [10]
The Smart #1 is a battery electric subcompact crossover SUV developed and produced by Smart Automobile, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz Group and Geely Holding. It is the first vehicle produced by the joint venture. The model is based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) electric vehicle platform developed by Geely. In China, the model is marketed as the Smart Jingling #1.
The Hyundai Kona is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. The first-generation Kona debuted in June 2017 and the production version was revealed later that year. It is positioned between the Venue or Bayon and the Tucson in Hyundai crossover SUV line-up. The battery electric version called the Kona Electric was first launched in South Korea during the first half of 2018 and rolled out gradually worldwide afterwards.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a battery electric compact crossover SUV produced by Ford. The vehicle was introduced on November 17, 2019, and went on sale in December 2020 as a 2021 model. The vehicle is in the Mustang series, with model name Mach-E inspired by the Mach 1 variant of the first-generation Mustang. The car won the 2021 North American SUV of the Year Award.
The Ford Puma is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) marketed by Ford since 2019. It is considered as a SUV equivalent of the seventh-generation Fiesta. The vehicle is only available for the European, Australasian, and South African markets, with sales starting in Europe from 2019, in Australasia from late 2020, and in South Africa from October 2023. The Nissan Ariya is a battery-electric car produced by the Japanese company Nissan since January 2022. It is a compact crossover SUV and is produced at Nissan's factory in Tochigi prefecture. The Ariya is the brand's first zero-emissions SUV. It was first revealed in July 2020, with the US launch of the Ariya initially planned for the second half of 2021, before being delayed to 2022.

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is a battery electric subcompact luxury crossover SUV (C-segment) produced by German luxury vehicle brand Mercedes-Benz since February 2021. It is part of the EQ family, a range vehicles expanded by 10 models in 2022. The vehicle uses the MFA2 platform, which designates C-segment and smaller-sized D-segment vehicles which use a base front-wheel drive layout.

The bZ series is a part of Toyota's plan to introduce 15 battery electric vehicle models by 2025, seven of which are from the bZ series. Vehicles from the bZ series make use of the e-TNGA platform co-developed with Subaru.

It was previewed as a concept was shown in May 2022 called the Renault Scénic Vision, with the production model having an estimated release date of 2024. The car is the 2024 European Car of the Year.
The Honda Prologue is a battery electric mid-size crossover SUV jointly developed by Honda and General Motors that is marketed in North America. Announced in October 2022 with sales starting in March 2024, it is Honda's first major electric vehicle following a number of low volume battery electric vehicles previously sold by Honda in North America, including the Honda Clarity, Honda Fit, and the experimental Honda EV Plus. Based heavily on the Chevrolet Blazer EV, the Prologue is comparable in size with the ICE-powered Passport.
The Peugeot 408 is a crossover SUV produced by French automaker Peugeot. It was unveiled in June 2022 as a C-segment vehicle slotting between the 308 and 3008 or 508. It was publicly exhibited for the first time at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. It is based on the EMP2 platform closely shared with the third-generation 308, and despite sharing the saloon silhouettes, mechanically unrelated to the Chinese market 408 saloon. According to Peugeot, the 408 is a blend between SUVs, hatchbacks and saloons, and has been described as a coupe crossover.
The Lotus Emeya is a planned battery-electric car manufactured by the British automobile manufacturer Lotus Cars. It is a grand tourer with a five-door liftback body style. It was revealed on 7 September 2023 as the company's second vehicle produced in China, after the Lotus Eletre. This car is expected to compete with the Porsche Taycan.
The Kia EV9 is an all-electric mid-size crossover SUV produced by Kia. It is the second Kia model developed on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is also the second model in the manufacturer's "EV" electric car range after the EV6.
The Avatr 11 is a fully-electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV announced in late 2021 by Avatr Technology and on sale since August 2022. Avatr is a joint venture between Changan Automobile, lithium-ion battery provider CATL, and Huawei, the Avatr 11 is underpinned by the EP1 platform. In 2018, a joint venture formed between Changan and Nio. Later, CATL replaced Nio as the second biggest shareholder when Nio withdrew during a financial crisis. Right now, Changan holds 40.99% of shares, and CATL owns 17.1%. Huawei has no shares in Avatr while supplying the hardware including electric motors and software for intelligent driving, connectivity, and infotainment.
