"Love Me JeJe" is a song written and recorded by Nigerian singer Tems, released on 25 April 2024, via RCA Records. It serves as the lead single from her forthcoming debut studio album, Born in the Wild (2024). [1] Produced by GuiltyBeatz and Spax, the song interpolates Seyi Sodimu's 1997 single "Love Me Jeje". Background

"Love Me JeJe" interpolates Seyi Sodimu's 1997 hit song "Love Me Jeje", which also features vocals by Shafy Bello. [4] [5] On April 22, Tems announced that the song would be released on April 25, and performed it for the first time during her Coachella 2024 set. "Love Me JeJe" was released after she announced that her debut studio album, Born in the Wild, would be out in May. [3] [2] Tems told Apple Music 1 that the song originated during a freestyle session she had with friends and that one of them interpolated Sodimu's "Love Me Jeje". Tems loved the original track and chose to include it in her recording. [6]

Music video

Prior to releasing the official music video for "Love Me JeJe", Tems made a visualizer for the song and uploaded it to YouTube on April 26, 2024. She directed the official video and filmed it at various locations across Lagos; the video serves as an ode to her hometown. [7] In the video's opening scene, Tems is shown having fun with her friends at a karaoke bar. Later, she is seen singing and dancing in the streets of Lagos while riding a tricycle and standing in a moving truck. The video also features evening scenes of the singer dancing with friends at a party. Moreover, it contains footage of Tems singing the song's bridge with Sodimu. [8] [9]

Live performances

Tems performed the song for the first time on her debut Coachella set and on the American late-night talk show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in May 2024, her second appearance on the series. [10] [11]

The song earned her a Grammy Award nomination. That same year, she was featured on the song "Fountains" by Canadian rapper Drake.

"Essence" is a song by Nigerian singer Wizkid, featuring fellow Nigerian singer Tems. It was released on 30 October 2020, as the fourth single from Wizkid's fourth studio album, Made in Lagos. "Essence" was produced by P2J and Legendury Beatz. The "sensual" song sees the duo express their desire for each other. A music video was released on 9 April 2021, shot in Accra, Ghana. "Essence" is the first Nigerian song in history to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200. The song received a nomination at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Performance.

During its debut week, the record gained popularity across TikTok in Europe and America, with the #FolakeChallenge hashtag.

"Free Mind" is a song by Nigerian singer and record producer Tems. It first appeared on 25 September 2020 as the third track from Tems's debut extended play, For Broken Ears. Tems wrote and produced the song alongside co-producer Omeiza. The song debuted on 2 April 2022 at number 5 on the then newly launched Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart.
