Kosei Inoue is a Japanese judoka. He won the gold medal in the under 100 kg class at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He is well known for his specialty throws, Uchi Mata and Ōuchi gari.

Teddy Pierre-Marie Riner is a French heavyweight judoka. An eleven-time world champion in the heavyweight division, two-time openweight world champion and one-time world champion with the French men's team, he is the first and only judoka in history to win twelve gold medals at the World Judo Championships. He is also the only judoka to be a five-time Olympic champion; having won the gold medal in the Men's +100 kg event at the Summer Olympics three times and, as a member of the French team, in the mixed team event twice. Additionally, he is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist, a five-time European champion, a four-time World Masters gold medalist and eleven-time Grand Slam winner in his weight category.

Luiz Yoshio Onmura is a retired judoka from Brazil. He represented Brazil at the 1980, 1984 and the 1988 Summer Olympics. Onmura won a bronze medal in the men's lightweight division (–71 kg), alongside Great Britain's Kerrith Brown at the 1984 Games.

Shinichi Shinohara is a Japanese television personality, judoka and winner of two gold medals at the 1999 World Championships in Birmingham. To Shinohara's disappointment, French champion David Douillet did not compete at Birmingham due to back injury; Shinohara was quoted as saying, "Even though I lifted the double crown at the worlds, it won't mean anything as long as people say it was won in Douillet's absence." Douillet had previously been declared victor at the 1997 championships in Paris after a French judge gave Shinohara a controversial penalty.

Despite being plagued with injuries throughout his career, Kim is known for dominating major competitions at the half-middleweight category (81kg)—particularly between his Olympic debut in 2008 and his 2012 Olympic finals rematch against Ole Bischof.
Matthew D'Aquino is an Australian judoka, who competed in the extra-lightweight category. He is a 5th Degree Judo Black belt, BJJ 1st black belt under Felipe Grez, two-time Australian judo champion, a multiple-time Oceanian champion for his respective division, and a former member of Marist Judo Club under his personal coach Tom Hill, who competed for the men's lightweight division at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and eventually won the gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England.
Felipe Kitadai is a judoka from Brazil. He won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and a gold at the 2011 Pan American Games. He also won gold medals six consecutive times in the Pan American Games Judo Championships: at 2011 Guadalaraja, 2012 Montreal, 2013 San José, 2014 Guayaquil, 2015 Edmonton and 2016 Havana.

The practice of the Japanese martial art of judo in Brazil dates back to 1914, and its presence spawned the creation of another notable martial art, Brazilian jiu-jitsu. However, judo practice in Brazil did not cease after the inception of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as evidenced by the fourth edition of the World Judo Championships being held in Rio de Janeiro in 1965. Furthermore, in the 2012 Summer Olympics, Brazilian judoka Sarah Menezes won the gold medal in judo, with other Brazilians winning bronze medals in various divisions, placing Brazil sixth overall in the total number of medals won in judo at the 2012 Summer Games, signifying the continued vitality of the martial art in Brazil.
Felipe Novoa Cianelli is a Chilean judoka, who played for the half-lightweight category. He won a bronze medal for his division at the 2005 Pan American Judo Championships in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and added three more titles to his collection from the South American Championships. Novoa is also the son of Eduardo Novoa, who competed in the men's middleweight class at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
Orkhan Safarov is an Azerbaijani judoka. He won a bronze at the 2013 World Judo Championships in the –60 kg category.
Nauru competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. The country's participation in Brazil was its sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Nauru's delegation included two participants: Ovini Uera, a judoka in the men's middleweight judo category; and Elson Brechtefeld in the men's 56 kg weightlifting competition. Uera qualified as Nauru's top-ranked judoka, in the IJF World Ranking List through a quota slot from the Oceania Judo Union. Brechtefeld qualified by grant from the International Weightlifting Federation of an unused quota place. Uera was eliminated by Varlam Liparteliani in the round of 16 and Brechtefeld finished 15th in his event.
Walide Khyar is a French judoka. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 60 kg event, in which he was eliminated in the second round by Felipe Kitadai.
