The MG7 is a mid-size sports sedan that was built by MG Motor between 2007 and 2013, derived from its British predecessors, Rover 75 and MG ZT to suit Chinese manufacturing and sales. The name was resurrected in 2022 with the launch of the second generation MG7.

Production started in March 2007. [2] The MG7 received praise from British car magazine Auto Express , who test drove it in May 2008, although it has not officially been sold in the United Kingdom. [3]
The MG7 came in two variants, the first which resembles the Mark I MG ZT, with twin front lights, and the second which resembles the Mark II Rover 75 V8. A long wheelbase version, called the MG7L, features the deeper radiator grille of the Rover 75 V8. [4]
The MG7 came in two trim levels: 'Classic' which features a slatted grille, and 'Sport' with a mesh grille. The look of the 7 has changed very little from the ZT and 75;[ citation needed ] the only noticeable difference is freshly designed LED rear light clusters, and new alloy wheels. Also the car features new audio and heating systems, as well as a new sunroof system.
There were two engine options, the 1.8T and the 2.5 V6, both revised Rover K-Series engines called the N-Series, with stronger head gaskets, both meeting strict Euro IV emissions regulations. Changes to the electrical system have been made to improve the engine's ignition system and also to support the wider range of equipment, which includes front headrest mounted DVD players for rear passengers, and a reversing camera. One of the greatest improvements is the replacement of some features, which were snatched away under Rover's Project Drive. These include bonnet insulation, driver's side grab handles and the noise, vibration, harshness package which reduces road, engine and wind noise in the cabin dramatically. All models now receive ITS head air bags.

The second generation MG 7 was unveiled in August 2022 with a teaser campaign during July. [6]
The MG 7 is a fastback sports saloon and is expected to only be sold in China and make use of the new Black Label designation. [7]
Two models are part of the launch: a 405 VTGI Trophy model with 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 257 bhp (192 kW; 261 PS) and 405 N⋅m (299 lb⋅ft; 41 kg⋅m) of torque and equipped with a nine-speed ZF gearbox. The cheaper version is the 300 VTGI with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 185 bhp (138 kW; 188 PS) and 300 N⋅m (221 lb⋅ft; 31 kg⋅m) of torque and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The MG 7 is available in five exterior colours known as: Cold Emerald, Porcelain White, Ink Black, Frosty Gray, and Camellia Red. Interior colour choices are known as: Xuanqing Black, Malachite Green, and Dinamica Suede. [8] Pricing ranges from 119,800 yuan to 169,800 yuan.
The Audi A6 is an executive car made by the German automaker Audi. Now in its fifth generation, the successor to the Audi 100 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany, and is available in saloon and estate configurations, the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant. Audi's internal numbering treats the A6 as a continuation of the Audi 100 lineage, with the initial A6 designated as a member of the C4-series, followed by the C5, C6, C7, and the C8. The related Audi A7 is essentially a Sportback (liftback) version of the C7-series and C8-series A6 but is marketed under its own separate identity and model designation.
The Volkswagen Passat is a series of large family cars (D-segment) manufactured and marketed by the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen since 1973, and currently in its ninth generation. It has been marketed variously as the Dasher, Santana, Quantum, Magotan, Corsar and Carat. The successive generations of the Passat carry the Volkswagen internal designations B1, B2, etc.
The Rover 75 is a car which was manufactured from 1998 to 2005 and sold under the British Rover marque. It is a executive car and came in four-door saloon and five-door estate body styles. Initially built only with front-wheel drive, a rear-wheel drive variant with a V8 engine was later sold. There was also an extended-wheelbase model. In 2001, MG Rover launched a badge engineered variant, the MG ZT. A coupé concept was built, but did not receive further development.
The MG ZR is an MG branded "hot hatch" version of the Rover 25 supermini class car, produced by MG Rover at their Longbridge plant in Birmingham from 2001 to 2005. Compared to the Rover 25, the ZR featured a number of styling modifications and performance enhancements, such as updated sports suspension and a less baffled exhaust.
The Chevrolet Sail is a subcompact car produced by SAIC-GM, a joint venture of General Motors in China. Launched in 2001, it was sold as the Buick Sail in China in both in sedan and wagon form which were both based on Opel Corsa B. Following the introduction of the Chevrolet brand in China in 2005, the car received a facelift and its name was changed to "Chevrolet Sail" and "Sail SRV".
Ford Performance Vehicles was the Melbourne-based, premium performance arm of automobile manufacturer Ford Australia. The company produced a range of Ford-based models from 2002 to 2014 under the FPV marque name.
The MG ZT is a car which was produced by MG Rover from 2001 to 2005. It was offered in saloon and estate versions, the latter designated as the MG ZT-T. Styling is similar to the Rover 75, upon which it was based, although various modifications, most noticeably the wheels and tyres, make for a far sportier ride. Production ceased in April 2005, amidst financial turmoil at MG Rover.
The Roewe 750 is an executive saloon that was produced by Roewe in China between 2006 and 2016, based on the Rover 75.
The MG6 is a compact car which has been produced by Chinese manufacturer SAIC Motor under the MG marque since 2010. It is slotted slightly above the compact sedan MG GT, and the compact hatchback MG 5.
The Volkswagen Passat is a front-engine D-segment large family car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 2005 to 2010 (B6) and from 2010 to 2015. Respectively the six and seventh generation Passat, and internally designated B6 and B7, they were marketed in sedan and wagon bodystyles in front-wheel as well as all-wheel drive configurations, with a range of petrol and diesel engines.
The MG5 is a series of compact cars that has been produced by SAIC Motor under the MG marque since 2012. The first generation MG 5 was launched on 28 March 2012 in China, and shares the same automotive platform as the Roewe 350 saloon car.
The Volkswagen Lamando is a compact sedan manufactured by Volkswagen through its joint venture SAIC Volkswagen in China. It debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show in August 2014 and was launched in China in November 2014. The Lamando is positioned as the low-slung version of the Sagitar in the country, as it is the case with the Volkswagen CC to the Passat.
The MG ZS is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the Chinese automotive manufacturer SAIC Motor under the British MG marque. Announced at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show in China, the MG ZS is the second SUV to be produced under the MG marque after the MG GS. It is positioned below the larger GS or HS, and above the smaller MG 3 hatchback. It is currently the brand's best selling model in international markets.
The Suzuki Dzire, known as the Suzuki Swift Sedan in Colombia and Guatemala, is a subcompact notchback sedan made by Suzuki mainly for the Indian market since 2008. It was developed as a sedan variation of the Swift hatchback.
The Roewe i6 is a compact sedan produced by SAIC Motor under the Roewe brand, succeeding the Roewe 550. The Roewe ei6 is the hybrid version of the i6. The Roewe i6 was previewed by the Roewe Vision-R, that debuted during the 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show.
The Changan CS75 is a compact crossover SUV produced by Changan Automobile. Debuted during the 2013 Guangzhou Auto Show and launched on the Chinese auto market in 2014, the original Changan CS75 received a facelift in 2018 and an additional PHEV model in the same year. The Changan CS75 Plus debuted on the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show and was launched on the Chinese auto market in 2019 while the original CS75 model remains in production and on the market. As of November 2020, the "Millionth Edition" first generation CS75 based on the 2018 facelift model was announced. The second generation CS75 Plus was introduced for the 2022 model year with updated powertrain and revised design.
The Roewe i5 is a compact car produced by SAIC Motor since 2017. Available as a sedan and as an electric station wagon, the latter was first introduced via the electric station wagon version, the Roewe Ei5, the compact station wagon debuted on the 2017 Guangzhou Auto Show.
The Geely Binrui is a compact sedan produced by Chinese car manufacturer Geely. The vehicle went on sale on 30 August 2018. The vehicle is based on the Geely BMA platform, as the first vehicle based on the platform.
The Chery Arrizo 5 Plus or previously, the Chery Arrizo GX (艾瑞泽GX) is a compact sedan produced by Chery. The Arrizo GX was based on the Chery Arrizo 5 and debuted during the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. The GX was later renamed to Arrizo 5 Plus for the 2021 facelift right after the Arrizo EX changed the name back to the previous name, Arrizo 5. A performance variant called the Arrizo 5 GT was launched in September 2022
