When asked about why the cover is a collage of serial killers, part of the band replied:
First of all we wanted artwork that was matching the first album. The idea about the serial killers came in last, and was partly put there to emphasize the title. Since a couple of the songs on the album is about serial-killers and other funny characters it all made sense to include some on the cover. I'd say, they're rather a part of an overall concept, than the actual concept of the album.
— Per Möller Jensen
I think we wanted to portray a sort of "we are guilty before we even release the album" in regards to all the censorship and musicians blamed for violent crime....
— Anders Bjöler
When asked about who were on the Cover, part of the band replied again:
Let's see...We put Jeffrey Dahmer there, we have Charles Manson (even though not being a serial killer), and Henry Lee Lucas...to name a few. These are all fascinating characters in their own ways.
— Per Möller Jensen
The person that describes it all is definitely RICHARD RAMIREZ. I don't know if he's on the cover or not, but the whole concept is about "an individual is responsible for his/ her own actions in life", it's always easy to blame something else, and not noticing the real problems in society. Taking the easy way out in the RAMIREZ case would be: "we have to ban AC/DC because he wore an AC/DC T-shirt".
— Anders Björler
Other notable mentions on the cover are Ted Kaczynski, Albert Fish.
When asked about Title, part of the band replied again:
Ha, we used "The Haunted Made Me Do It" as a cynical statement to all the censorship discussions in the US, to sloppy cunts like Tipper Gore and the PMRC. People are gonna do what they do regardless.
— Per Möller Jensen
When asked about Writing, Per replied:
Some songs were already written before I joined, but when we came back from the US tour with Testament last year, we started writing the last songs, which became "Bury Your Dead", "Leech", "Trespass" and "Revelation". Jonas, Anders or Jensen will bring in riffs, or a verse and chorus, and all the members can then have their input on the way the song will go.
— Per Möller Jensen

The Haunted is a Swedish heavy metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1996. The original members were Anders and Jonas Björler, Peter Dolving, Adrian Erlandsson and Patrik Jensen. Both of the Björler brothers and Erlandsson were members of the seminal melodic death metal band At the Gates, a pioneering force in the Swedish death metal scene.
At the Gates is a Swedish death metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990. The band was a major progenitor of Gothenburg-style melodic death metal alongside In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. Prior to their first disbandment in 1996, At the Gates released four albums, ending with and including Slaughter of the Soul (1995), which has been seen as a landmark in the mid-1990s Swedish death metal scene as well as being a major inspiration for many metalcore bands. After reuniting for a one-off tour in 2008, the band reformed once again in 2011, and they have since released three more albums: At War with Reality (2014), To Drink from the Night Itself (2018) and The Nightmare of Being (2021).
Slaughter of the Soul is the fourth studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band At the Gates, released on 14 November 1995 by Earache Records. It was their last album before their eleven-year breakup from 1996 to 2007. Slaughter of the Soul is considered a landmark in melodic death metal and played a major role in popularizing the Gothenburg scene, alongside The Jester Race by In Flames and The Gallery by Dark Tranquillity. The album was recorded and mixed in Studio Fredman, early 1995.
Terminal Spirit Disease is the third album by Swedish melodic death metal band At the Gates. It was released in 1994 and re-released in 2003 with bonus tracks. It is the first album to feature rhythm guitarist Martin Larsson who replaced Alf Svensson in 1993. The band originally had wanted to record an EP of new material, but their label had insisted on a full-length album. To compromise, the band added several live tracks to pad the overall length.
Revolver is the fourth studio album by Swedish metal band the Haunted. It was released on 18 October 2004.
Adrian Paul Erlandsson is a Swedish heavy metal drummer who is a member of At the Gates, the Haunted, and Nemhain (2006–present).
Anders Björler is a Swedish musician. He is best known as the lead guitarist in the metal bands The Haunted and At the Gates, alongside his bass-playing twin brother Jonas Björler.
Hammered is the sixteenth studio album by British rock band Motörhead, released on 9 April 2002 via Steamhammer, their sixth with the label and beating the Bronze Records era total of original full-length album releases. It was also the beginning of distribution in North America, and other territories, under Sanctuary Records and their subsidiary Metal-Is.
The Haunted is the debut studio album by Swedish metal band The Haunted, released in 1998 on Earache Records. Tracks 1–4 and 12 were part of the band's greatest hits album, Warning Shots. Peter Dolving and Adrian Erlandsson both quit at different times after the album, but both returned on different releases, with Dolving on rEVOLVEr, and Erlandsson on Eye of the Storm.
Live Rounds in Tokyo is the first live album by Swedish metal band The Haunted, released in 2001. It was issued with their previous release The Haunted Made Me Do It. The Japanese version of the album excludes the song "Eclipse", as it was on their version of The Haunted Made Me Do It; instead right before "Hate Song" is "Blinded by Fear", which is an At the Gates cover, also making "Hate Song" the final track of that version.
One Kill Wonder is the third studio album by Swedish metal band The Haunted. It was released on 17 February 2003.
With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness is the second studio album by the Swedish death metal band At the Gates. It was re-released in 1993 with The Red in the Sky Is Ours and again in 2003 with bonus tracks. This would be the last album with guitarist Alf Svensson who left the band after its release.
The Red in the Sky Is Ours is the debut album by the Swedish death metal band At the Gates released on 27 July 1992. It was re-released in 1993 along with With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness and then in 2003 with bonus tracks.
The Dead Eye is the fifth studio album by Swedish metal band The Haunted. It was released on 30 October 2006.
Metal is the twelfth album by Canadian heavy metal band Annihilator, released on April 16, 2007, by SPV/Steamhammer. However, it wasn't released in the United States until January 15, 2008. The album includes several special guests who each contribute to separate tracks. This includes Danko Jones, Angela Gossow, Steve "Lips" Kudlow, Alexi Laiho, Anders Björler, Michael Amott, Jesper Strömblad, Corey Beaulieu, Jacob Lynam and William Adler.

Versus is the sixth studio album by Swedish metal band The Haunted. It was released on 17 September 2008. This marks a return to their aggressive sounds in the previous albums after their experimental fifth album The Dead Eye. All instruments were recorded live like their debut album, The Haunted, and solos and vocals were added once they had the songs down. The album is more or less about the decadence of mankind as last two songs "Faultline" and "Imperial Death March" point it out.
Road Kill is the second live album by Swedish metal band The Haunted, released on 21 April 2010. The live tracks were recorded at Melkweg, Amsterdam on 13 February 2009. The studio bonus tracks were recorded during the Versus sessions, 1–14 April 2008
Unseen is the seventh studio album by Swedish metal band the Haunted, released on 16 March 2011. The album begins to experiment with a more rock-influenced alternative metal sound mixed with their usual groove metal and melodic death metal sound.
At War with Reality is the fifth studio album and major label debut by Swedish melodic death metal band At the Gates, released on 28 October 2014. It is the band's first album since Slaughter of the Soul (1995), marking the longest gap between two studio albums in their career. It is a concept album based on the literary genre of magic realism.
