The Madeline Island Marathon and Half Marathon is an annual road running competition held in May at La Pointe, Wisconsin, located on Madeline Island, United States. [1] The course runs point-to-point, with out-and-back portions. The course follows a scenic route, which is mostly paved, but also includes sections of gravel road. The route features scenic woodlands and Lake Superior views, in a rural setting. Joni's Beach on Madeline Island serves as the starting and ending point. [2]

The male record time for the 2017 Madeline Island Marathon is 2:53:47, set by St. Paul, Minnesota runner Andrew Kromroy. The female record time for the 2017 Madeline Island Marathon is 3:12:20, set by Encinitas, California runner Stephanie Berger-Mckenna.

The WhistleStop Marathon and Half Marathon is an annual road running competition held in October in Ashland, Wisconsin, in the United States. The course runs point-to-point and is held on the Tri-County Corridor, a rail-trail now paved with limestone gravel. The course stretches from two miles east of Iron River, Wisconsin and features ten re-decked railroad trestles, wetlands, trout streams, Chequamegon National Forest woodlands, dairy farms, residential neighborhoods and traffic-free quiet. The finish is located near Ashland's Bay Area Civic Center. The WhistleStop Marathon is USATF certified (#WI98019WG).

The Blue Ridge Marathon - America's Toughest Road Marathon - is an annual marathon, half marathon, 10K, team relay, and double marathon held in both Roanoke and Roanoke County, Virginia, United States. Officially announced on August 12, 2009, the inaugural event occurred on April 24, 2010. The course starts in Downtown Roanoke and finishes in Elmwood Park. The race is a boutique run that attracts approximately 3000 runners. Kibii has also won several competitive half marathons, and dominated fast "SacTown" 10 mile race in Sacramento, California. Her lifetime prize winnings total more than $100,000.

Janice Ettle is an American middle-distance and long-distance runner, winner of major marathons and top finisher in dozens of road races, as well as a competitor at the 1987 World Marathon Cup and fourth-place finisher at the Havana, Cuba, 1991 Pan American Games women's marathon.. Ettle was a five-time competitor at the US Olympic Marathon Trials.

Karen Zemlin is an American open water swimmer from Minnesota who completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming in 2019. She has completed ten documented marathon swims to date and is still swimming with the Hopkins Master Club in Minnesota.
