Madizinae is a subfamily of freeloader flies in the family Milichiidae. There are about 8 genera and more than 160 described species in Madizinae. [1] [2]
These eight genera belong to the subfamily Madizinae:
Milichiidae are a family of flies. Most species are very small and dark. Details of their biology have not yet been properly studied, but they are best known as kleptoparasites of predatory invertebrates, and accordingly are commonly known as freeloader flies or jackal flies. However, because of the conditions under which many species breed out, they also are known as filth flies.
The Scenopinidae or window flies are a small family of flies (Diptera), distributed worldwide. In buildings, they are often taken at windows, hence the common name window flies.
Hybotidae, the typical dance flies, are a family of true flies. They belong to the superfamily Empidoidea and were formerly included in the Empididae as a subfamily.
Fissurellidae, common name the keyhole limpets and slit limpets, is a taxonomic family of limpet-like sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Vetigastropoda. Their common name derives from the small hole in the apex of their cone-like shells. Although superficially resembling "true" limpets, they are in fact not closely related to them.
Trichopezinae are a subfamily of empidoid flies. They are mainly predatory flies like most of their relatives, and generally small to medium-sized, long-legged and large-eyed.
Dolichocephala is a genus of Dagger flies in the family Empididae. There are at least 40 described species in Dolichocephala.
Periscelididae is a family of flies.
Brachystomatinae is a subfamily of flies belonging to the family Empididae.
Clinocerinae is a subfamily of flies belonging to the family Empididae.
Empidinae are a subfamily of empidoid flies. They are mainly predatory flies like most of their relatives, and generally small to medium-sized. Most species are flower visitors and they can be effective pollinators.
Ephydrinae is a subfamily of shore flies in the family Ephydridae. There are about 16 genera and at least 120 described species in Ephydrinae.
Heleomyzinae is a subfamily of flies in the family Heleomyzidae. There are about 19 genera and more than 400 described species in Heleomyzinae.
Hydrelliinae is a subfamily of shore flies in the family Ephydridae. There are about 10 genera and at least 130 described species in Hydrelliinae.
Pipunculinae is a subfamily of big-headed flies. There are about 9 genera and at least 130 described species in Pipunculinae.
Scathophaginae is a subfamily of dung flies in the family Scathophagidae. There are at least 30 genera and 130 described species in Scathophaginae.
Heleomyzini is a tribe of flies in the family Heleomyzidae. There are about 10 genera and more than 180 described species in Heleomyzini.
Coleomyia is a genus of robber flies in the family Asilidae. There are about eight described species in Coleomyia.
Mumetopia is a genus of flies in the family Anthomyzidae. There are at least four described species in Mumetopia.
Antissinae is a subfamily of soldier flies in the family Stratiomyidae. There are about 7 genera and 18 described species in Antissinae.
Nemognathinae is a subfamily of blister beetles in the family Meloidae. There are about 8 genera and at least 120 described species in Nemognathinae.
