Mahamat Saleh Annadif (born December 25,1956) [1] is a Chadian diplomat who has held various prominent roles. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the government of Chad from 1997 to 2003. Between 2006 and 2010,he also served as the Permanent Representative of the African Union to the European Union. From 2015 to 2021,he served as Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Mali. In addition,from 2022 to 2023,he served as the Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS). Furthermore,he resumed his role as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and concurrently held the position of Minister of State from October 2022 until the conclusion of the Chadian transitional phase in May 2024,playing a crucial role in facilitating the transition.
Annadif was born in Arada,Chad to a Rizeigat Arab family of the Mahariya branch and holds an engineering degree in telecommunications from the Polytechnic School of Madagascar. [2]
Upon graduating,Annadif worked at the telecommunications department of the National Office of Posts and Telecommunications (ONTP) from 1981 to 1982. As a leading member of the National Liberation Front of Chad/Democratic Revolutionary Council (FROLINAT/CDR),he was in charge of the group's information and propaganda from 1982 to 1985;afterwards he was second vice-president of FROLINAT/CDR from 1985 to 1988. He again worked at the ONTP from 1988 to 1989 as head of research.
Annadif served in the government as Secretary of State for Agriculture from 1989 to 1990. Later,he was Director-General of the ONTP from 1995 to 1997. [1]
Annadif was first appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs on May 21,1997. [3] On January 9,2003,he signed a peace agreement with Mahamat Garfa,the leader of the rebel National Resistance Alliance (ANR),in Libreville,Gabon,providing for a cease-fire and the reintegration of the rebels into society. [4] He was replaced as Foreign Minister in 2003 after six years in office. Later,he was appointed as the Director of the Cabinet of President Idriss Déby,taking office on September 9,2004. [5] He was subsequently appointed as Permanent Representative of the African Union to the European Union in May 2006. [6]
Annadif was appointed as Secretary-General of the Presidency in April 2010.
On 17 April 2012,Annadif was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement. He denied the charges [7] and was released on 17 July 2013.
Annadif was appointed as the African Union's Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on November 1,2012. [8] In this capacity,he oversaw 22,000 soldiers,mainly from Uganda,Burundi,Kenya,Ethiopia,Djibouti and Sierra Leone. During his time in office,Annadif implemented disciplinary measures after Human Rights Watch had revealed that African Union soldiers in Somalia raped and sexually exploited women and girls on their peacekeeping bases in the Somali capital Mogadishu. In December 2015,Annadif was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to serve as his Special Representative for Mali and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), [10] replacing Mongi Hamdi who had resigned after just a year amid difficulties implementing a peace deal and improving security in the north of the country. [11] During Annadif's time in office,al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) launched an attack in May 2016 on two United Nations' sites in northern Mali where a peacekeeper from China and three civilians were killed and over a dozen others wounded. [12] Shortly after,the UN Security Council decided to send 2,500 extra peacekeepers to Mali,authorizing the force to take "all necessary means" to deter attacks. [13]
Annadif is a member of the International Advisory Board of the African Press Organization (APO).
Moussa Faki Mahamat is a Chadian politician and diplomat who has been the elected Chairperson of the African Union Commission since 14 March 2017. Previously he was Prime Minister of Chad from 24 June 2003 to 4 February 2005 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from April 2008 to January 2017. Faki,a member of the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS),belongs to the Zaghawa ethnic group,the same group as the late President Idriss Déby.

Mohamed Ibn Chambas is a Ghanaian lawyer,diplomat,politician and academic who has served as an international civil servant since 2006. He last served as the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel,and the former head of UNOWAS from April 2014 to April 2021. Previously,he served as the UN SRSG and Head of the Joint UN-AU Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur (2012-2014),the Secretary-General of the African,Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (2010-2012) and the president of the Economic Community of West African States.
The United Front for Democratic Change was a Chadian rebel alliance,made up of eight individual rebel groups,all with the goals of overthrowing the government of Chadian president Idriss Déby. It is now part of the Union of Forces for Democracy and Development. UFDC was founded between 26–28 December 2005 in Modeina in eastern Chad. FUC's "president" is Mahamat Nour Abdelkerim,the former leader of the Rally for Democracy and Liberty rebel group,"first vice president" Hassan Salleh Algadam,"second vice president" Abakar Tollimi,and "secretary-general" Abdelwahit About. On 18 December the RDL and another allied rebel group,Platform for Change,Unity and Democracy,attacked the city of Adré. The attack was repulsed by the Chadian military,and the Chadian government accused the Sudanese government of supporting the rebels,which Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir denies. Chad declared a "state of belligerance" with Sudan on 23 December 2005,resulting in the Chad-Sudan Conflict. The result was the Tripoli Agreement.

Ahmad Allam-Mi is a Chadian diplomat who has been Secretary-General of the Economic Community of Central African States since 2013. He was the Foreign Minister of Chad from 2005 to 2008,and he was Chad's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2008 to 2013.

Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno is a Chadian politician and military officer who has been the leader of Chad since 2021,first as President of the Transitional Military Council from 2021 to 2022,then as Transitional President from 2022 to 2024,and then as the 7th President since 2024 following his victory in the presidential elections. He is widely known in Chad by his nickname Kaka. He is also the General Secretary of the Patriotic Salvation Movement since 2022. He gained power on 20 April 2021,succeeding his father and predecessor,Idriss Déby,who died in action while commanding troops in the Northern Chad offensive. He previously served as the second in-command of the military for the Chadian Intervention in Northern Mali (FATIM).

He was previously the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations,Resident Coordinator,and Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan.
The Transitional Military Council was a military junta that ruled Chad from 2021 to 2022. It announced the death of former President Idriss Déby on 20 April 2021,and declared that it would take charge of the government of Chad and continue hostilities against FACT rebels in the north of the country. It was chaired by Mahamat Idriss Déby,the son of the late President,making him the de facto President of Chad. It was dissolved on 10 October 2022,following a "national dialogue" that named Déby Transitional President and replaced the CMT with a transitional administration appointed by him.
The 2019 Aguelhok attack was an attack by Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin against the MINUSMA base in Aguelhok,Mali on January 20,2019. At the time of the attack,the base was defended by Chadian and Bengali peacekeepers and was later aided by French forces as part of Operation Barkhane.
On August 14,2017,jihadists from Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin attacked a MINUSMA base in Timbuktu,Mali.
