According to the final quota allocation released on January 20, 2014 Malta had qualified one athlete. [7] Élise Pellegrin's great-grandfather had moved to France from Malta, giving her the opportunity to compete for the country. [4] On February 18, Pellegrin finished the giant slalom race in 65th position (out of 67 skiers who completed both runs). [8] On February 21, she finished the slalom race in 42nd position (out of 49 skiers who completed both runs). [9]

The Luxembourgian team consisted of one athlete in cross-country skiing, Kari Peters. In the only event he contested, the men's sprint, he finished in 79th place. He withdrew from the 15 km classical due to illness.

Élise Pellegrin is a Maltese-French alpine skier who has competed since 2006. Pellegrin was born in Blois, France, and qualified to compete for Malta at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, becoming the first Winter Olympian to represent the country. Although Pellegrin was born in France, her great-grandfather had moved to France from Malta, which gave her the opportunity to compete for the country. Pellegrin was also the flagbearer for Malta at the opening ceremony.

Malta sent a delegation to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018, with one competitor, alpine skier Élise Pellegrin. It was the country's second Winter Olympic appearance, after the 2014 Winter Olympics. Pellegrin was designated as the flag bearer for both the parade of nations during the opening ceremony, and the closing ceremony. She was disqualified from the giant slalom, and finished 50th in the slalom.

Three athletes from India qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia held between 7 and 23 February 2014. They initially entered the competition as Independent Olympic Participants due to the ongoing suspension of India's national olympic committee (NOC), the Indian Olympic Association since 2012. However, on 11 February 2014, the IOC reinstated India's NOC, allowing two athletes, Himanshu Thakur and Nadeem Iqbal, who still had pending events to compete under the Indian flag.
