Manjima Mohan is an Indian actress who primarily appears in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. She started her career as a child artist in Malayalam films. she made her debut as a lead actress with Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015) in Malayalam and Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada (2016) in Tamil. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South in 2017. [2] [3]

Personal life

Manjima is the daughter of veteran cinematographer Vipin Mohan and dancer Kalamandalam Girija. After completing her schooling at Nirmala Bhavan Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, she pursued a B.Sc. degree in mathematics from Stella Maris College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She married actor Gautham Karthik on 28 November 2022. [4]

Career

Manjima was a leading child artist in Malayalam film industry in early 2000s later she also hosted a television call-in show for kids by the name ‘'Hai Kids'’ on Surya TV for three years which rose her fame among Malayali audience.

Despite having had acting experience, she said that she was "not at all confident" when she started shooting for the film and that the initial days were "terrifying". [5] Oru Vadakkan Selfie , which was directed by G. Prajith and scripted by Vineeth Sreenivasan, featured Manjima Mohan as the female lead. [6]

Upon the release of Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Manjima landed her first Tamil film, Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada . [3] Its director Gautham Vasudev Menon, who was impressed with her work in Oru Vadakkan Selfie, [7] cast Manjima as the female lead, after she had gone through an audition. [8]

In 2017 she had two Tamil films, one opposite Udhayanidhi Stalin - Ippadai Vellum [9] [10] and the other, Sathriyan , opposite Vikram Prabhu. [11] In 2019, she made her come back to Malayalam with Mikhael opposite Nivin Pauly for the second time . She also has a few Tamil films in her career, including Tughlaq Durbar with Vijay Sethupathi, and Raashii Khanna. [12] [13] [14] Her first release in 2023 was a Horror Thriller film Boo directed by A. L. Vijay that directly premiered on JioCinema. [15]

Oru Vadakkan Selfie is a 2015 Indian Malayalam-language road-comedy film directed by G. Prajith and scripted by Vineeth Sreenivasan. The film features Nivin Pauly, Manjima Mohan, Aju Varghese, Neeraj Madhav, and Vineeth Sreenivasan. The music was composed by Shaan Rahman. It was released on 27 March to positive reviews, and became one of the biggest grossing Malayalam films of the year. Some news media and the Kerala Film Producers Association called it the first successful Malayalam film of 2015. This movie marks the debut of Manjima Mohan as an actress in a Malayalam movie. Earlier, she appeared as a child artist in films, including Priyam and Sundara Purushan. The film was remade in Telugu as Meda Meedha Abbayi which received good responses from critics and audiences.

Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada is the soundtrack album for the 2016 Tamil film of the same name. Starring Silambarasan and Manjima Mohan in lead roles, the film was directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and has music composed by A. R. Rahman, collaborating with Silambarasan and Gautham Menon once again, after Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (2010). The song titles were revealed by Menon in March 2016. The soundtrack album consisting of five songs were released by Ondraga Entertainment and Divo on 7 October 2016.

Uthara Menon is an Indian costume designer, who has worked in the Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film industries.

Tughlaq Durbar is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language political satire film written and directed by Delhi Prasad Deenadayalan, on his directional debut, with screenplay and dialogues written by Balaji Tharaneetharan. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Raashii Khanna, R. Parthiban, Manjima Mohan, Karunakaran, Bagavathi Perumal and Rajkumar. The music of the film is composed by Govind Vasantha, with Manoj Paramahamsa and Mahendiran Jayaraju handling the cinematography and R. Govindaraj edited the film.
