Mariann Birkedal in Stavanger) is a Norwegian beauty queen who has represented Norway in Miss Universe 2008 and Miss World 2010.

Stavanger is a city and municipality in Norway. It is the third largest city and metropolitan area in Norway and the administrative centre of Rogaland county. The municipality is the fourth most populous in Norway. Located on the Stavanger Peninsula in Southwest Norway, Stavanger counts its official founding year as 1125, the year the Stavanger Cathedral was completed. Stavanger's core is to a large degree 18th- and 19th-century wooden houses that are protected and considered part of the city's cultural heritage. This has caused the town centre and inner city to retain a small-town character with an unusually high ratio of detached houses, and has contributed significantly to spreading the city's population growth to outlying parts of Greater Stavanger.

Norwegians are a North Germanic ethnic group native to Norway. They share a common culture and speak the Norwegian language. Norwegian people and their descendants are found in migrant communities worldwide, notably in the United States, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, New Zealand and South Africa.

Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northwestern Europe whose territory comprises of the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula; the remote island of Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard are also part of the Kingdom of Norway. The Antarctic Peter I Island and the sub-Antarctic Bouvet Island are dependent territories and thus not considered part of the kingdom. Norway also lays claim to a section of Antarctica known as Queen Maud Land.

Miss Universe 2008

After participating in Frøken Norge 2008 and placing first runner-up, she was selected in a separate competition to be her country's representative to the 2008 Miss Universe pageant held in Nha Trang, Vietnam on July 14, 2008.

The Frøken Norge 2008 beauty pageant was held in Lillestrøm, Norway on 20 April 2008. 10 finalists out of 2110 applicants were chosen after weeks of public voting to compete the final night, trying to win the coveted crown. All of the 10 finalists represented their hometown in the contest.

Miss Universe 2008, the 57th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 14 July 2008 at the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela was crowned by Riyo Mori of Japan as her successor at the end of the event. 80 contestants competed in this year which was broadcast and distributed globally via NBC in English and Telemundo in Spanish to TV outlets in more than 180 countries. The pageant was watched by a live audience of 7,500 and nearly a billion television viewers worldwide.

Nha Trang is a coastal city and capital of Khánh Hòa Province, on the South Central Coast of Vietnam. It is bounded on the north by Ninh Hoà district, on the south by Cam Ranh town and on the west by Diên Khánh District. The city has about 392,000 inhabitants, a number that is projected to increase to 560,000 by 2015 and 630,000 inhabitants by 2025. An area of 12.87 square kilometres (4.97 sq mi) of the western communes of Diên An and Diên Toàn is planned to be merged into Nha Trang which will make its new area 265.47 square kilometres (102.50 sq mi) based on the approval of the Prime Minister of Vietnam in September 2012.

Miss World 2010

Birkedal competed and won the 2010 Frøken Norge pageant celebrated in Noresund on June 26, gaining the right to represent Norway in Miss World 2010.

The Frøken Norge 2010 beauty pageant was held at the Sole Hotell & Herregaard in Noresund, Norway on 26 June 2010. 7 finalists competed for the two winner titles.

Noresund is a small village in Krødsherad in the county of Buskerud, Norway.

Miss World 2010, the 60th anniversary of the Miss World pageant, was held on 30 October 2010 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China after Vietnam backed out of the hosting contract. 115 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown. Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar crowned her successor Alexandria Mills of the United States at end of the event.

As the official representative of her country to the 2010 Miss World pageant, held in Sanya, China, she won the Miss World Top Model fast-track event on October 23, and automatically became one of the Top 25 semifinalists, the first Norwegian woman to place in Miss World since 2003.^[2]

Sanya is the southernmost city on Hainan Island, and one of the four prefecture-level cities of Hainan Province, in Southeast China.

Miss World 2003, the 53rd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 6 December 2003 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. The pageant was presented by Phil Keoghan, Amanda Byram, and Angela Chow. The contestants also paid a visit to Hong Kong, Xi'an, Shanghai, and Beijing. Azra Akın of Turkey crowned her successor Rosanna Davison of Ireland, the daughter of popular musician Chris de Burgh, claiming Ireland's first major beauty pageant title. 106 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown, marking at that time, the biggest edition in the pageant history. This was the first time China hosted the pageant. Ticket pricing for the event ranged from $110 to $2,730.

Birkedal also placed third in both Miss World Beach Beauty ^[3] and Miss World Sportswoman ^[4] fast-track events of Miss World 2010, which made her the early bookies' favourite to win the contest. In the end, she finished in the Top 7.^[5]

Eli Landa, born 21 March 1984 in Sandnes, Norway, but now living in Stavanger, is a Norwegian model, bank employee and teacher student at the University of Stavanger who was crowned Frøken Norge Universe 2009 on 28 March 2009. The winner of the Frøken Norge World title was Sara Skjoldnes from Skien.

The Frøken Norge 2009 pageant was held in Lillestrøm, Norway on 28 March 2009. 12 finalists were competing for the two winner titles. Frøken Norge World was chosen by 75% audience votes and 25% judges' votes and represented Norway in Miss World 2009 in South Africa, and the Frøken Norge Universe was chosen by the judges and represented Norway in Miss Universe 2009 in the Bahamas.

Gizem Memiç (Turkish: [ˈɡizem ˈmemitʃ]; is a Turkish model and beauty pageant title holder who won the title of Miss Turkey 2010 on Thursday 1 April 2010. Gizem Memiç accepted the crown from Ebru Şam, Miss Turkey 2010. She graduated from Interior Architecture & Environmental Design at Bilkent University.
