It is the fastest-growing major city in Pennsylvania, the largest city in the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area, and Pennsylvania's third largest city, behind only Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in total population. The Deal barracks bombing was an attack by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) on the Royal Marine Depot, Deal, England. Fleet Band Activities (FBA), formerly the Navy Music Program (NMP), is the central management office for nine active-duty fleet bands of the United States Navy. The culture of Allentown dates back to its settlement in the 18th century. Religious groups, such as the Moravians, wanted to escape persecution in Europe and settle in the newly discovered land. Lenape Native Americans occupied the Lehigh Valley area. 19th and 20th century immigrants include Germans, Italians, Asians, and more recently Hispanics and African Americans. In more recent years, the city has been the subject, or background for, numerous movies, television shows, and songs.
