Mark Douglas Buddle (born 1984) is an Australian outlaw biker, criminal and an alleged gangster.

Comancheros

Buddle was born in Maroubra and had what was described as a "gritty" childhood. [1] On 7 June 2010, the security guard Gary Allibon was murdered during a robbery, and the New South Wales police view Buddle as a "person of interest" in regards to Allibon's slaying. [1] In October 2010 Buddle along with Mick Murray were charged with affray (fighting in public) after a brawl with Alen Sarkis and David Lima of the Notorious Motorcycle Club in Bondi. [2] In 2011, he became the national president of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club after the previous national president Duax "Dax" Ngakuru fled Australia to Turkey. [3]

In December 2011, he was involved in an exceptionally violent brawl in Spearmint Rhino strip club in Melbourne. [4] In December 2012, he was arrested in Queensland to be extradited to New South Wales where he was wanted on charges of being involved in a pub brawl. [5] In January 2014, he was arrested on charges of threatening to murder a Queensland police officer in December 2012. [3] In regard to the brawl, Buddle pleaded guilty to one count of affray (fighting in public), one count of "intentionally causing injury" and two counts of assault, for which he served 15 months in prison. [4] In July 2015, he was arrested after being taking with him an undeclared sum of $60, 000 Australian dollars out of the country. [4]

Fugitive

In 2016, he fled to the United Arab Emirates after he was a declared a "person of interest" to the police in connection with the murder of a security guard in 2010. Buddle appointed a committee that consisted of the national sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed, the Melbourne chapter president Mick Murray and Sydney chapter president Allan Meehan to run the Comanchero in his absence. From his home in Dubai, Buddle was accused of orchestrating via encrypted texts shipments of cocaine from Hong Kong into Australia. [6] There was reported to be much tension between Buddle who attempted to run the Comanchero from his exile in Dubai vs. Murray who ran the Comanchero from Melbourne. [7] In September 2017, Buddle sent a text message to all Comancheros saying: "I'm the fucking commander of the world...no one is to touch another member or set up another chapter without my permission". [8] Buddle used the supposedly super-secure encrypted ANOM texting app on his cell phone to communicate. Unknown to him, the ANOM texting service was owned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation which installed a "backdoor" on the ANOM app which allowed all of the texts to be decrypted. [9] As part of Operation Trojan Shield, the police forces of Europe, Australia and New Zealand were allowed access to the ANOM texts. In 2021, Buddle is alleged to have sent out texts calling for a "commission" similar to "the Commission" that rules the American Mafia to control the prices of drugs in Australia. [10] In one text, Buddle is said to have complained that the price of methamphetamine had dropped from $250,000 Australian dollars per kilogram to $80,000 Australian dollars per kilogram "because there is NO STRUCTURE, no rules, no reasoning and to be honest there’s NO SENSE". [10]

In 2021, Buddle was involved in a brawl by a poolside in Dubai and then went to Turkey to avoid charges of assault. [11] He then settled in North Cyprus, a state only recognised by Turkey and which has no extradition treaty with Australia. [11] Buddle was expelled from North Cyprus in July 2022 because his presence was "inconvenient in terms of public peace and security" according to a press release. [12] Buddle is the object of intense media attention in Australia. [1] The Australian journalist Chris Graham complained that the media tended to present Buddle as more intelligent than what he really is as he wrote: "After taking his shirt off to engage in the fight, Buddle was identified by CCTT...because his surname is tattooed across his chest (presumably so that he doesn’t forget it). Which very strongly suggests that Mr. Buddle is not the sharpest tool in the shed...Long story short, we’re not talking about master criminals here, although you could be mistaken for believing Buddle is Al Capone re-incarnated if you’ve followed the breathless, fawning coverage of him in the Australian media over the past few years." [1] Graham compared Buddle to the clownishly inept comical villain Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers films, saying that he was not the criminal genius that the media portrayed him as, and that his self-proclaimed title as the Comanchero "Supreme Commander of the World" was ridiculous. [1]

In August 2022, he was deported from Turkey and arrested in Australia on charges of importing 160 kilograms of cocaine worth $40 million Australian dollars into Melbourne in May 2021. [13] In 2023, Alex Vare was reported to have replaced Buddle as the new "supreme commander" of the Comancheros. [14] Mel Terwisscha, Buddle's girlfriend and the mother of his children, announced that she left Buddle after his marriage to a Turkish Cypriot woman. [6] Terwisscha was reported to have been "very upset" after being arrested in Bodrum. [6] Terwisscha stated: ""I haven't seen Mark for a year. He's the father of my children. They see him, I don't. My kids have gone to and from [Northern Cyprus] but I have stayed away." [6]

The Comanchero Motorcycle Club is an outlaw motorcycle gang in Australia and South East Asia. The Comancheros are participants in the United Motorcycle Council of NSW, which convened a conference in 2009 to address legislation aimed against the "bikie" clubs, their poor public image in the wake of several violent clashes and ongoing biker wars, and defusing deadly feuds such as the Comancheros' battles with the Hells Angels. The sincerity of these efforts to defend the battered image of the clubs has been met with skepticism.

The Finks are an Australian outlaw motorcycle club that was formed in Adelaide, Australia, in 1969 and now also has chapters in other states. The name comes from The Wizard of Id cartoon where the peasants, to his dismay, often proclaim, "The King is a fink!". The logo used by the Finks is of Bung, the king's jester. The pants worn by the jester used to differ in colour depending on the state the chapter resides in.

The history of gangs in Australia goes back to the colonial era. Criminal gangs flourished in The Rocks district of Sydney in its early history in the 19th century. The Rocks Push was a notorious larrikin gang which dominated the area from the 1800s to the end of the 1900s. The gang was engaged in running warfare with other larrikin gangs of the time such as the Straw Hat Push, the Glebe Push, the Argyle Cut Push, the Forty Thieves from Surry Hills, and the Gibb Street Mob.

Alessio Emmanuel Vella, or Maltese Falcon, is a Maltese businessman, former boxer and the former national president of the Rebels Motorcycle Club in Australia. Despite having lived in Australia since the 1960s, he is not a citizen of the country. This caused visa problems when he tried to return to Australia after having gone to Japan with his son Adam for a boxing match in 2007. The New South Wales Police Force tried to bar Vella from re-entering Australia then, but he was eventually allowed to return. In 2014 Vella visited his friends and family in Malta, and while he was there, his residency visa was cancelled by the Australian Minister for Immigration and Border Protection. Vella tried to appeal in the High Court of Australia in October 2015, but was not permitted to.

The Nomads Motorcycle Club is an outlaw motorcycle club in Australia with a large number of chapters and members nationwide. It was founded in Newcastle in 1968. A number of countries have motorcycle clubs called "Nomads Motorcycle Club", e.g. Australia, South Africa and Germany, and there is a Nomads gang in New Zealand.

Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi was a Lebanese-Australian outlaw biker and gangster who served as the second national president and "supreme commander" of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club.

Duax "Dax" Hohepa Ngakuru is a New Zealand outlaw biker and alleged gangster.

Michael "Mick" Murray is an Australian outlaw biker, businessman and alleged gangster.

Notorious is a former gang that was based in Sydney, Australia. They claimed to be an outlaw motorcycle club; however, not all members ride motorcycles. A large percentage of its membership consisted of petty criminals, with no real history of bikers among their ranks. Its emblem features a skull with a turban brandishing twin pistols and the words "Original Gangster" beneath it, along with the motto "Only the dead see the end of war". Labeled as one of Australia's most dangerous gangs, they had been feuding with larger and well-known motorcycle gangs including the Hells Angels and the Bandidos. It was thought that as of March 2012 the gang no longer existed as an organised structure after being dismantled by a police operation arresting key members and with other members choosing to quit the gang life. This served to reinforce claims by established MCs that Notorious wasn't a genuine club.

Joseph Hakan Ayik, also known as Hakan Reis is a Turkish-Australian drug trafficker. He has an estimated net worth of 1.2 billion dollars, and was described in June 2021 as "Australia's most wanted man".

The Bandidos Motorcycle Club is classified as a motorcycle gang by law enforcement and intelligence agencies in numerous countries. While the club has denied being a criminal organization, Bandidos members have been convicted of partaking in criminal enterprises including theft, extortion, prostitution, drug trafficking and murder in various host nations.

The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club (HAMC), an international outlaw biker gang, has been involved in multiple crimes, alleged crimes, and violent incidents in Australia. The Hells Angels are legally classified as a criminal organisation in the Australian state of Queensland, and there have been attempts to classify them as such in New South Wales. The Hells Angels have been linked with drug trafficking and production, as well as a host of violent crimes including murder, in Australia.

William George "Jock" Ross is a Scottish-born Australian outlaw biker, best known as the founder and the "Supreme Commander" of the Comanchero Motorcycle Club and for his involvement in the Milperra massacre of 1984. Ross was sentenced to life imprisonment with Judge Roden childing him as one of the men most responsible for the shoot-out at the Viking Tavern.
