Mary Winifred Harris QSO is a former New Zealand cricketer and public servant who served as Clerk of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2015. She played 33 first-class cricket matches for Wellington between 1977 and 1986,and 12 One Day Internationals for the International XI women's cricket team at the 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup.
Harris was born in New Plymouth. The family moved to Wellington when Harris's father,a school teacher,took a job at the Correspondence School. She was educated at Wellington Girls' College,and went on to study at Victoria University of Wellington,graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and geography. [1]
After leaving university,Harris was a violinist in the Wellington Regional Orchestra and worked part-time at Prudential Assurance. She began her state-sector career in 1979 when she was appointed to the Department of Statistics as an assistant investigating officer. After promotion to the position of senior survey officer,she was involved in the development and running of the Household Labour Force Survey. [1]
On 22 June 1987,Harris joined the Parliamentary Service (which from 1985 to 1988 had oversight of the Office of the Clerk of the House) as a senior committee secretary,and in 1990 was promoted to the senior management role of clerk-assistant,initially with responsibility for providing services to select committees and,from July 2000,managing reporting services (including Hansard ,broadcasting and Māori language interpretation). She was appointed to the office of deputy clerk on 11 February 2002. [2] Harris was appointed Clerk of the House on 10 December 2007, [3] following the resignation of David McGee,becoming the first woman and first non-lawyer in the role. [4] She served as Clerk of the House for seven years and seven months before retiring on 5 July 2015. [5]
A right-handed batter and occasional wicket-keeper,Harris played first-class cricket for Wellington from the 1977/78 season until 1985/86. She played 33 matches for Wellington,scoring 988 runs at an average of 20.16,with a highest score of 64 not out. During her first-class career,she took 15 catches. [6] She captained Wellington in a number of matches. [1]
Harris was drafted into the International XI women's cricket team for the 1982 Women's Cricket World Cup,which was played in New Zealand. [1] During the tournament,she played in all of the International XI's 12 matches,achieving a highest score of 27 not out,averaging 9.44 runs with the bat,and taking three catches. [6]
In the 2014 New Year Honours,Harris was appointed a Companion of the Queen's Service Order,for services to Parliament. [7]
The Basin Reserve,also known as the Cello Basin Reserve for sponsorship reasons,and commonly referred to as the Basin,is a cricket ground in Wellington,New Zealand. It is used for Test matches,and is the main home ground of the Wellington Firebirds first-class team. The Basin Reserve is the only cricket ground to have listed status with Heritage New Zealand,in recognition of being the oldest first-class cricket ground in the country. Historically,the ground has also been used for events other than cricket,such as association football matches,concerts and cultural events.
Geraint Owen Jones is a former cricketer who played for both England and Papua New Guinea. Born to Welsh parents in Papua New Guinea,Jones was the first-choice wicketkeeper for the England cricket team between 2004 and 2006. He later played international cricket for Papua New Guinea from 2012 to 2014. He announced his retirement from first-class cricket in July 2015 following his resignation as the first-class cricket captain of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
Clare Joanne Connor is an English former cricketer who batted right-handed and bowled slow left arm spin. She held the presidency of Marylebone Cricket Club from 2021 until 2022. She made her England One Day International debut in 1995 and played her first Test match that winter. She achieved a hat-trick against India in 1999 and captained England from 2000 until her retirement from international cricket in 2006.
Patricia Frances McKelvey,often known as Trish McKelvey,is a New Zealand former cricketer,cricket administrator and educator. She appeared in 15 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals for New Zealand between 1966 and 1982. She also appeared in 6 One Day Internationals for International XI at the 1973 World Cup. She played domestic cricket for Wellington and Otago.

After retiring from teaching,he was a cricket administrator in Wellington and a historian.
Adam Charles Voges is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer who played for the Australian national team at Test,One Day International (ODI),and Twenty20 International (T20I) level,and also captained Western Australia and Perth Scorchers in domestic cricket. Voges' Test match batting average of 61.87 is third among batsmen that have played a minimum of 20 innings behind Don Bradman and Harry Brook,who has played exactly 20 innings as of 31 July 2023. Voges was included in the 2016 ICC Test Match Team of the Year.
Sophie Frances Monique Devine is a New Zealand sportswoman,who has represented New Zealand in both cricket for the New Zealand national women's cricket team,and in field hockey as a member of the New Zealand women's national field hockey team. She has since focused on cricket. She is known for not wearing a helmet when batting,a rarity in 21st century cricket. In December 2017,she was named as one of the players in the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year.
